butter LONDON Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection
Straight from the A/W 2011 catwalks of New York and London, butter LONDON brings to market nail lacquer shades so new, they‟ve been hand blended by the brand‟s Founding Creative Director and colour trend expert Nonie Creme in between fashion shows. According to Nonie, “My mixes this season reflect the luxe-grunge moment, and burst of new era, „dirty‟ jewel tones prevalent on the catwalk for A/W 2011.”
“My inspiration was a variation on jewel tones. Imagine taking a traditional jewel tone palette, then moving each shade about two notes to the left,” she explains. According to Nonie, “this means a garnet instead of a ruby, a dirty teal instead of a sapphire, and an olive or patina gold instead of a brassy or yellow tone, as best captured at shows like Alexander Wang, Yigal Azrouel, Betsey Johnson, and even hidden inside fingerbands at Vena Cava” she describes.
butter LONDON A/W 2011 Colours Include (MSRP $14):
Bluey (851847002647) – a slightly metallic dark peacock blue, perfect for fashionable birds
“Bluey” is vintage British slang for a pornographic film. Ah, the good ‘ol days.
Wallis (851847002654) – a tarnished, metallic olive gold, as mysterious and regal as its namesake
In honour of the Saucy Yank who ran away with the king‟s heart.
Toff (851847002692) – a darker, dustier, brownish variation on a rose pink. Stop to smell them. The roses, not the toffs
A slightly derogatory name for a member of the British upper class.
No More Waity, Katie (851847002616) – a soft greige littered with lilac glitter for the perfect marriage of fashion and fun
One day my prince will come, and I will wrap him around my tiny, sparkling finger.
Knees Up (851847002074) – a smashing metallic red for getting smashed in
Brit slang for a drunken party.
Backstage with butter LONDON: butter LONDON was the lacquer of choice at the following A/W 2011 shows: Vena Cava, Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham, Calvin Klein Menswear, Betsey Johnson, Yigal Azrouel, Ports 1961, Christian Cota, Calvin Klein, Issa London, and James Long Woman.
