Chanel Makeup Summer 2012 Summertime De Chanel Collection Swatches and Review
This Summer, Chanel brings us such a casual relaxed look that is full of color. With a glance the collection it reminds me of the sun, beach, sand, pearls, and more.
Starting off with the bronzing powders, they seem to mimic the sunset during summer. It’s like the horizons and everything is in a beautiful harmony.
What we have here is Soleil Tan De Chanel 907 Sable Beige. It is a golden beige combination more or so earthy like tanned look with browns.
When I swatched each color, I notice that 3 out of all 7 colors showed up to be more pigmented than the others. The others were a bit more sheer. There is quite a few shimmers too making the powder highlighting when put on. But overall it’s still quite pigmented.
Soleil Tan De Chanel 917 Sable Rose, gives a more rosey like bronze with pinks. Hence the word “Rose.” This palette does give darker color than the Sable Beige upon a glance.
In this palette, we have two pink (rose) toned strips instead of the beiges. The colors go from the family of browns to pink. Again, there are shimmers to highlight the colors.
Here is a side by side comparison for you to see regarding both bronzing palettes.
Despite having darker colors for the Sable Rose, the end result isn’t that much different than the Sable Beige when put side by side with blended colors altogether. Both bronzers have fine golden shimmers and you can see it however, Sable Rose provides a more rosier glow than Sable Beige. Sable Beige’s color is a bit more beige brown that is quite subtle.
How would a makeup collection ever become complete without lipsticks?! Chanel came out with 2 Rouge Coco Shine this season of which are both in the sheer pink / red family. The colors are:
437 Empreinte – Glossy beige pink
447 En Vogue – Glossy coral pink
With a side by side color comparison, En Vogue’s coral like color gives a bolder variation of pink when contrasted to Empreinte. They are both on the sheer side but full of gloss. And they’re super moisturizing.
Besides lipsticks, there are also choices for lip gloss. Chanel has come out with two very different colors for different looks and they are:
327 Sirocco – shimmering beige that goes on almost clear
337 Calypso – shimmering coral
Both lip glosses are full of shine and provide scattered shimmers. They’re not moisturizing and plumping making you lips look fuller, they also provide different looks. Sirocco gives an almost clear like color to the lips whereas Calypso is coral. The shimmers in Sirocco is also more sparse than Calypso.
For summer eyes, Chanel plays simple and classy with the eyeshadow duo, 37 Sable Emouvant. It comes with two brushes with 2 earthy toned colors, chocolate brown and desert beige.
The eyeshadows swatch really well, there is no doubt on the formula. Pigmentation is easily done and application is a breeze. The shadows glide on smoothly and evenly with no effort. They also come with shimmers that look like sparkly things that highlight when reflected to light especially the darker chocolate brown shade channels a more earthy tanned look for summer.
Last but not least, the 3 brand new nail polishes for this season. They are as follows:
597 Island – Pearly beige with hints of pink.
607 Delight – Metallic bronze gold.
617 Holiday – Orangey red almost like coral.
If you look in depth at each color swatched, you will notice a variety of finish. Island has a pearlescent look that’s exactly like a pearl. Delight looks formulated with gold dust. You can see the texture with a highly reflective shine. Finally Holiday, is the nail polish that provides a high glossiness with a smooth finish. There’s quite a nice range of options for everyone, whether you like smooth creme or subtle pearl or even luminous metallic.
The formula of the trio is even on a higher level than the previous releases. Each nail polish as you can see provides great coverage. The swatches were done with 2 thin coats but with 1 coat they already looked decent. I was a bit worried about Island because pearly finish tends to look streaky. But surprisingly, it didn’t give me any trouble. The first coat showed a tad bit of brush mark and the second coat completely evened out. Delight and Holiday were also super easy to apply.
This year’s summer release from Chanel gives me the sense that it is more towards relax colors without trying too hard. There isn’t the green, blue, or anything dramatic, but when put together it’s still simply elegant. Each color is made with good formula, so you won’t have the chips, the clumps, or even fallouts etc. Instead, Chanel’s summer gives us a few colors that is very wearable and good for everyday.

Did you get to try the peachy eyeliner pencil? That’s the item I’m most interested in from this collection, the rest I already have similar stuff so I decided to skip 🙂 Great swatches, love your blog by the way!
I actually didn’t get the eyeliner pencil. When I was swatching it in stores it wasn’t worth it in my opinion. For some reason it didn’t really appeal to me. Color wasn’t really all that great.
Gorgeous pictures and swatches, I think I’ll go for the pink-toned bronzer although I’d really like to have a naturally brown bronzer, mine are always infused with pink or coral or any other colour to make me look healthy (although it always fails lol). Chanel’s the only brand attracting me with its rather neutral-themed collections, the eyeshadow duo could probably be found in any other high-end’s range, but it looks so divine, I’ll have to swatch it in-store.
It’s available all over at the Macy’s counters. The pink does appeal to me more than the other one. I’d say swatch both bronzers before picking it out.
Yet another beautiful collection. You are the must haves for you from this collection?
Sorry I meant what are the must haves from this collection in your opinion?
The must haves include any bronzer, Calypso lip gloss, Island, and Holiday nail polish. Holiday reminds me of Xmas while Island reminds me of summertime fun.
I want everything! The nail polishes is a want for me.
Sable Rose would look so good right now. But the rest of the collection really isn’t all that appealing.
Sable Rose is great especially the pinkish tone.
The nail polish trio looks so unique. Have you tried combining colors?
Nope haven’t tried but now I am interested.
They didn’t make anything bright this season except for Calypso. I wanted something more interesting than these.
The colors this time seem to be like relaxing. Calypso indeed is the only color I think is the boldest.
Everything is like a must have. My poor bank.
I purchased En Vogue and I absolutely love it. The color give’s my lips life.
I got the Calypso after seeing it featured here. It is simply gorgeous all around lip gloss.
I regret being this entire collection. It was so expensive! But I couldn’t keep my hands off the products when I was at the counter.
Sometimes, I get those feelings too.
Such gorgeous swatches and photos. Thank you for making my purchasing a lot easier.
Thanks!
Love it, picked up the Sable Beige Bronzer and the Calypso Glossimer, Might go back for the other bronzer and the Malice Blush – BUT – Just wondering – how does the Chanel Sable-Emouvant Duo compare to the Beige and the Brown in the Dior Summer 2012 Aurora Quint? Just purchased the Dior Quint and not sure if I need the Chanel Duo …. Thanks.
I like the Dior Quint more.
Hi,
I really need some help choosing a bronzer, as I’m not going to be able to pick one up for ages at store. I’m a b30 in Chanel and NW in Mac. I have Corail from last year, any help would be great ! xx
I would recommend the Sable Rose for a rosier look.
