Ciate Velvet Manicure Mink Cashmere with Nail Polish Cream Soda Swatches and Review

Ciate is a brand that always puts a twist on the way we view nail polish and manicure on the nails. I find its design and ideas to be very different, yet unique from the other leading nail polish makers in the industry. It rather possesses a specialty niche. A niche of creating the most trend leading products that aren’t seen on the everyday nail.

Recently the brand came out with 3 exciting new kits. It’s called the Velvet Manicure. Today we will be showing you the kit in Mink Cashmere.

Upon opening the kit, I immediately noticed that besides the nail polish there are actually more items. The one bottle of nail polish has a cute bow around the neck, which looks both elegant and classy. And there is a little black brush that is quite small but easy to hold. The handle is flat and thin which brings much precision than the usual fat brushes I’ve seen. There is also a long clear cylinder bottle with crushed velvets. The cap on it is easy to pop open but be careful not to spill any out. We will talk about how to use the brush and the velvet later on.

Let’s go ahead and take a look at the nail polish itself first. The name of the color is 082 Cream Soda which is in a Light Grey color. Ciate’s nail polish bottle looks extra special since the detailing is quite exquisite. I have mentioned before about the bow tie, it feels like a black satin with a little bit of stitch line design on the sides. Instead of wrapping it around the bottle neck, the bow is glued onto the handle so it will not get in the way when you apply nail polish.

The bottle has a specially designed curved shape, in such a ergonomic way that fits right in the palm of your hands. The long black handle is made for easy handling and promotes the best strokes each time. On the opposite side of the handle is the bristle. Ciate coins it as the 250 Bristle Flat Brush which guarantees a flawless even finish. Lastly, the black satin bow is the finishing touch that crowns the polish. I will talk about formula later. Each bottle comes in at 13.5 ml.

So let’s get down to business and take a look at how this kit works. Inside the kit is a simple instruction manual on how to use the polish and crushed velvets for the effect shown on the front of the box. You start the process just like doing any other manicure, making sure the nail plate is clean and oil free. Apply one coat of nail polish to each nail and let dry. Then work one nail at a time with a second coat, it would be time to sprinkle a generous amount of the crushed velvets on the wet nails. Remember not to wait until the polish has dried. Sprinkles enough velvets to make the design looks rich and luxurious. After you have finished sprinkling the velvets, use the enclosed little black brush to sweep all the excess velvets into the clear tray from the box. Wait 10-15 minutes to let the polish and the velvet top dry completely.

I have decided to give you a glimpse of the polish step by step as I apply it on my nails. The very first thing I tried was giving my nails a single coat of the polish. I simply wanted to test the bottle design and also the color as well. After the first coat dries, it felt like the color was a bit sheer to the look upon an initial glance. However, the formula is very easy to apply and the consistency is superb.

So on to my test #2. Giving the polish another whirl, I applied a second coat. It was perfected. Smooth and even coverage with a glide of the finger and solid in color, it was ready for the next step. By the way I think the polish looks already gorgeous by itself. So it will sure get a lot of wear.

Looking at the crushed velvets bottle, it is light and when I mean light it is really light! The cap on top can be opened and closed without the fear of the cap being lost. That is because it is connected to the bottle. I sometimes hate bottle designs with caps that can be easily lost only find that it fell off the table. Anyways, after opening the top, you will notice that there are 5 holes that you can precisely control the amount of the velvets crush.

The enclosed brush is quite little as I had mentioned earlier but it gets the job done where you would use it to wipe off the excess velvets that hinder your design. I also use it to brush the excess back into the velvet pot. No waste!

The instruction suggests that you do one nail at a time in order to prevent the polish from drying. But I find that if you move fast enough, you can do 2 or 3 nails at a time. And remember don’t turn the nail fan on when you sprinkle the velvet. Also don’t sit under the AC vent, or else your crushed velvet will fly everywhere and that’s not cool. So there you have it! The design is perfected and completed. It is unique and something definitely eye catching, the finish is very 3D and lively to the eyes.

Playing with the manicure kit was extremely fun. Though I was a little nervous before started doing it, it’s actually a lot easier than I thought. Everything you need is in the kit and it’s definitely got the runway look. The velvet mani is soft and comfortable to wear. It’s something you can both see and feel the difference.

Ciate nail polish kits including Velvet Manicure can be purchased at Sephora stores and online. Starting next month you can also find it at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and other retailers.

I tried it on at Sephora, it was cool, but I don’t think it’s worth the money.
