Color of the Week – Water Marbling Second Try and Thoughts

This week I’m doing water marbling again. I wasn’t too happy with the pattern that came out last time so I’m going to try it one more time.

The polishes I used are Maybelline express finish Racy Red and Sally Hansen Sheer Romance 1 Natural White. Instead of the dampening dish, I used something bigger this time and of course a tooth pick for removing excess polish.

Follow the same steps like I did before, drop the nail polishes into the water.

Use the tooth pick to draw out pattern.

Dip in the nail and clean up the remaining polish.

Pull the nail out and let air dry.

Compare to the first one I did last week. I would agree with you girls that I personally like subtle over contrasting marbling.

Tricks and tips that I thought of:

1. Not all nail polishes will work for this. I tried at least 5 different nail polishes but only these sort of worked out. So it’s a matter of trial and error to determine which polish will work for you. It can’t be too rich or thick. I think a thinner polish would work better because you need to let it drop into water fast.

2. Timing is the key and you gotta be fast. Leave all your polishes open so you don’t waste time there. The polish on the water is only a thin layer so it’ll dry up quickly.

3. Use a bowl slightly bigger than your whole finger. You don’t need a giant bowl nor can you use a tiny dampening dish like I did last time.

4. If you want to do it on your own finger, try to apply cuticle oil or cream around your skin first. That way it’s easier to clean up the mess. Also a Q-tip saturated with polish remover will do the job better than a cotton ball.

Do I think it’s worth the effort? Probably not. I’m not planning to do this again with nail polishes. It wastes a lot of nail polishes. Typically you’re going to need 5+ drops of polishes for each nail and that’s a lot. Unless it’s something cheap like a dollar polish. I’m not using my Chanel polishes on this. But it’s worth the fun for once in a while. I do decide to try the marble look with my gels though. So keep tuned.

Last but not least have a great weekend ahead, girls and guys.

It would kill me to actually do this on my nails, haha, I am too bad at art. I like your second try a lot though. It makes me think of the strawberry and milk flavor lollipops I like to eat when I was young^0^
