Color of the Week – Chanel Gold Lame vs. Gold Fiction
Hi everyone! How’s your Monday going so far? Today’s CotW I want to do a comparison post of my two Chanel nail polishes, Gold Lame and Gold Fiction.
Gold Lame (Left) is one of the three LE nail polishes from Noir et Or Collection released earlier this year. It was only available at select Chanel boutiques, online and Nordstrom stores. At first I was going to pass on it since I’ve already own the Gold Fiction (Right), another LE polish from Fall 2008. The difference between these two are really not that much. But in the end I still decided to get it just to complete my collection before it’s gone.
Although they’re both Limited Edition, Gold Lame was not treated the same way as Gold Fiction. First of all Gold Fiction has a special opaque bottled. It was to prevent direct sunlight and the pigments won’t easily be damaged. Then the price of it was at $30, the most expensive Chanel polish I have. On the other side, Gold Lame is just like any other regular Chanel polishes. So my question is, does Gold Fiction really worth the extra bucks?
Since Gold Fiction hides its true color inside the gold bottle, we’ll have to swatch it to see what it really looks like. With one thin coat, it (top half) does look smoother and offers better evenness than the Gold Lame (bottom half). You can see Gold Lame looks a little streaky. Color wise, they’re quite similar.
With two coats, you can definitely tell there’s a fine line between these two colors. Gold Fiction (top) is that pure 24 karat gold but Gold Lame (bottom) looks a tad coppery. Gold Fiction also has that beautiful luster which Gold Lame lacks. And again Gold Lame shows a little stroke marks and the Gold Fiction has that flawless metallic finish.

So this is my comparison and swatch. I’m not saying Gold Fiction is better than Gold Lame. I’m just trying to show the differences between them. It really depends on what you like and what you’re looking for.
they’re both very ‘luxe’ colors, definitely classy and black-tie friendly. 🙂 i like ’em.
I think I like gold lame better. If you get a chance, please check out my dare you to wear challenge. I am challenging my subscribers to recreate a look from the derek lam fashion show (pics on my blog). I will be doing an updated post showing what everyone came up with.
I am also currently having my August giveaway.

They do look similar but I like Gold Fiction better… hehe~ 🙂 Again, expensive product… haha j/k~ It’s all good. I love seeing them!!! 😉
I use soup noodle base since it has less of a salty taste. I think I might be the only one who uses that over soy sauce though… lol~ :X
I absolutely love those colours! I might actually grab some when I get back to UK. Thanks for the review! ^^
Gold Fiction is gorgeous! I prefer it more than the coppery/bronzey Gold Lame. The word limited edition does weird things to my wallet, I have to stay strong haha xD
wow i thought that gold one is going to be super gold and shiny on nails but it looks fine swatched, in the bottle it looks gorgeous too! something unusual 🙂
I like Gold Fiction better too! 😀
i cant bare to part with my cash with such a dinky bottles of nail polish 😛 both are pretty nonetheless!
