Color of the Week – Valentine’s with Dior Red Royalty

Happy Valentine’s day! Though it falls on a Monday, I still hope you guys had a great Valentine’s day with your loved one. For me, we didn’t go out for dinner this year. Instead my husband cooked a nice meal along with some homemade macaroons. It’s the heart and the moment that matter the most. To end the day with some extra sweetness, I’m bringing you two nail art designs, one dark and one bright, both featuring Dior Vernis Red Royalty.

A vibrant cocktail of color and shine. Dior Vernis is the finishing touch for a Valentine’s Day look. (Source:

The goods – a pair of tweezers, dotting tool, nail art brush, and a pair of scissors.

Nail stickers and nail tape.

I’m also going to use these polishes for my 2 nail designs.

Hello Kitty Pink Sprinkles and OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight NL D01.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat and Lechat Cm Nail Art polish Gold Glitter NA19.

For dark version, I applied 2 coats of OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight. You can opt for any dark shade if you can’t find the OPI. But I like Lincoln Park at Midnight for its deep rich purple tone. It’s more romantic than pure black. Don’t you think?

Step 2, draw two hearts with Dior Red Royalty and decorate it with some dots.

Final step, draw a gold heart using the Cm nail art striping polish. And add your favorite top coat for a glossy look!

For the bright version, first I’m applying Dior Red Royalty as my base. Can you believe this is done by just one coat? It’s the most beautiful red I’ve seen.

Step 2, stick on some nail seals like butterfly and flowers on it. I’m choosing white patterns as they add a nice contrast to the red base.

Step 3, apply 4 gold nail tapes like so. If you can’t find nail tapes, you can probably use the craft foils.

I also applied Pink Sprinkles on the 2 corners of the bright version for more glitz and glam. So this is the final look for my 2 nail art designs.

An alternative look in the sun. The purple shimmer in Lincoln Park at Midnight really warms up the dark shade.

Since this is the first time I’m showing these 3 polishes swatches, I’m also going to get into a little detail about them.

Dior Red Royalty – Definitely 2 thumbs up! The color is striking, the formula is fabulous, the coverage is impeccable and the finish is flawless… there’s really nothing I don’t like about it. I do like the fact that it’s pure matte. And it has to be the most unbiased red polish I’ve had so far. Don’t forget it’s super fast drying too, love~! Though I wasn’t sure if this is the case, but number 999 sounds special and maybe that’s why I got it in the first place.

OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight – This is a great dark shade with a hint of purple. In my opinion, it’s a 2 coat polish. You won’t get the complete opaque finish with one coat without looking too thin. But with a second coat, you’re guaranteed a rich, even manicure. For most polishes, 2 coats application is just standard. The only problem is it’s a LE polish so hopefully someday it’ll become a regular shade.

Hello Kitty Pink Sprinkles – Cute packaging! I’m sure everyone would love these kitty head shaped polishes. As the name suggests, Pink Sprinkles is a pink polish that has tons of multi-colored glitters in it. It may look like there’re a lot of glitters in the bottle, but when you apply it on the nail, you don’t have to worry about it being too chunky or too overly done. One coat is actually really subtle. I applied 3 coats on the design above. So it’s a good thing that you can control how much glitter you get.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat – This is the first time I’m using it. $9 is pretty expensive for a top coat. My first impression is not love. I’ve seen many people rave about it but I’m very surprised to see how thick the texture is. Honestly it almost ruined my nail designs. Maybe I just haven’t got used to it or maybe it doesn’t work for me. I’ll have to give it some more tests before I update on it.

Thanks for reading today’s post and hope everyone enjoy the rest of your Valentine’s night!

This might sounds really stupid but when you say draw on the hearts, did you actually draw those on or use a konad plate? If you drew that on I am completely amazed….thats awesome! I could never do that. I swear you should start a business where you customize fake nails and sell them to people. I would so buy them!

awww sweetie thanks for your compliments. i did draw the hearts with a nail art brush, the pink one on my photo. it’s so much easier to use a thin brush. you should try it too. it’s really fun to do nail arts.
