Dior Fall 2011 Blue Tie Collection 3 Couleurs Smoky Ready-To-Wear Smoky Eyes Palette 291 Smoky Navy Swatch And Review
The newest addition to Dior’s Fall 2011 Blue Tie Collection, 3 Colors Smoky Eye Palette. There’re 6 variations in the collection, Smoky Black, Smoky Navy, Smoky Pink, Smoky Brown, Smoky Khaki, and Smoky Nude. Today let me focus on 291 Smoky Navy.
These just hit the counters of Nordstrom early this week. It retails for $48.
Dior 3 Couleurs Smoky Palette 291 Smoky Navy
The new case design is called Ouverture Coulissante which is slide to open. There’s an illustration drawing on the back of the packaging.
While opening the box the first thing you see is the instruction booklet, along with the drawing reminding you how to open the case.
I always appreciate Dior’s effort for including an instruction booklet with the product. A lot of brands now are trying to cut cost so they only give you the product without telling you how to use it. You might save a buck or two on the product but you’re pretty much on your own to figure out what to do.
Here are the directions on how to apply the look. 3 colors, 2 smoky eyes looks, 1 pro palette
The case is pretty standard to any Dior case with its lightweight design. It’s almost like a DIORSKIN Forever Compact except thinner in length.
The sliding mechanism is something unseen in Dior’s line of work. This is a retractable case design with an instant pop up mirror upon opening the palette. Super cool and chic!
On the bottom is actually the Base Color. It’s a soft baby blue. Texture is fantastic with great blendability. It’s not exactly silky but it’s not dry either.
The top 2 shades are duo of Soft Smoky and Couture Smoky. The soft smoky blue can be used alone to achieve a light ready-to-wear style. The couture blue can also be use alone to achieve a glamorous look or can be layered on top of the soft smoky blue.
Swatch with natural indoor lighting. All 3 shades have nice pigmentation with base and soft smoky being matte, couture smoky being shiny. I was worried about fallouts from the couture smoky shade, but the texture was actually quite nice. It might look gritty in the pan but in reality it feels smooth and the shimmers are really fine so it looks sparkly.
Swatch with direct sunlight. If you enlarge the photo, you can see both matte shades have a nice blue sheen so they’re not flat.
The palette sports a unique design with a pop open mirror in a retractable sliding case which is cool and easy to use. It’s really light weight and great for on the go. I’m sure it’ll attract a lot of attention when someone bust out this navy gem in the crowd.
The shadows themselves are in nice quality and along the lines of its smoky nature but the palette is not a must-have if you already own the ultra cool hip designed blue tie metallic casing palette. I also feel like the price on this is a bit high, you’re paying a good portion for the case instead of the product. But for a fashion forward super Dior fan, you can never have too many smoky palettes. And on top of that, this could be a great alternative to the metallic blue tie palette.

I like the Black version of this…I’m thinking!
I will have the black version out soon!
looks awesome. the blue is the new black 🙂
I think this fall a lot of things are becoming blue for some reason.
thanks so much for this review, I love the soft smokey blue look 🙂
Thanks for the comment.
Thank you for reviewing this! I’ve been waiting for this to be released. I will have to run down to Nordstrom to take a look at it.
There are 6! They are pretty neat, don’t be shocked if the SA doesn’t know how to open it. It’s because it’s a slider design now.
I’ve been waiting for this palette forever. I thought there were only 3 colors, but great the more the better.
Hehe, that is what I initially thought when I went to Nordstrom. They have 2x 3 colors out in 6 different slots. I think they set it up wrong or something.
The packaging is so cool. I need to check it out.
Thanks for commenting!
This palette is really pretty. I love the baby blue base a lot.
They are very coordinating in colors so it doesn’t look weird as if mashed together.
I’m eyeballing the pink variation and of course the nude. They’re more practical for me.
We have the nude coming up and the pink too! Stay tuned.
Love the swatches. I do wish it was a bit cheaper but it’s Dior.
It’s not really that bad in price but it is the innovation that is pretty cutting edge.
I need this! The packaging alone is worth the price, so chic! And I’m totally diggin smoky blue.
Hehe!
This palette looks really similar to the Blue Tie palette. I’m more interested in the other variations.
I will have the other variations posted soon.
I am going to run down to my local Nordstroms as well. That palette really looks neat because of sliding feature.
You should, it really caught my eye when they had those press pictures out.
Lovely palette! The dark matte navy blue is nice.
Yes indeed. I love how it has a iridescent sheen to it so it’s not flat matte.
I like the new packaging but the colors are similar to the ones I have already. I’ll need to check out the other colors.
There are 6 variations in the collection. Do check it out in store, you may find something you like.
Oh my god so pretty. Thanks for sharing!
No problem!
Great palette! Thanks for the swatches and review.
I love everything smoky and this is a must have for me.
Go for it. it’s a great palette.
