Dior Holiday 2011 Les Rouges Or Collection Or Nail Polish and Rouge Dior Lipstick Swatch Photo and Review

This holiday season, Dior is golden! Everything from nail polishes to Rouge Dior lipsticks are infused with gold dust, making the holiday a truly glamourous galore.

Let’s first focus on the highly anticipated nail polishes. There are 4 shades in the collection which is called The Or Vernis.

The 4 shades are: 221 Or Divin, 611 Exquis, 651 Merveille, and 871 Apparat. I’m glad to see all of them contain visible gold shimmers, since recent Dior polishes were mostly creme.

Here’s a swatch of one coat application on the nail wheel. Needless to say, the formula is fantastic as always with just a bit shy on the coverage. It was very easy to apply and the consistency was just right. There’re only minor brush marks on the gold shade Or Divin. You won’t be able to tell from arm’s length.

All 4 shades instantly became opaque after the 2nd coat was applied. The colors were also intensified a lot. Note the finish of the polishes is not as glossy as the early launches, so I’ll just call it semi-glossy.

Now let’s take a closer look at each of them individually. 221 Or Divin (means “gold divine” in English) is a light gold color with gold shimmer. The finish is somewhat metallic and you can see some brush marks when looked closely.

611 Exquis (means “exquisite” in English) is a taupe brown color again with gold shimmer. Brown always goes great with gold and that’s the same case with Exquis.

651 Merveille (means “wonder” in English) is a bright tomato red color with subtle gold shimmer. It’s quite strange that the little twinklings were all hidden in the sea of red, they were more visible in the bottle. It sure did make me “wonder” why.

871 Apparat is a burgundy plum with gold shimmer. This is my favorite shade out of the collection, it’s a more grownup version of red.

I had a crazy idea when I was doing the swatches. Why not using Or Divin as a top coat on the rest of the 3 shades and see what they end up with? I’m not sure if this is what I expected because apparently Or Divin was “too” opaque for a top coat, but it did somehow transform the 3 shades into something new and different. At least they’re now more metallic looking.

Here we have the whole collection swatched in the sunlight whether you like the Or Divin on top or not. It was a fun experiment.

Yea I know you guys have been waiting for a while. I am so sorry about that. Alright everybody let’s give it up. Here comes Les Rouges Or Collection Rouge Dior lipsticks!

We also have 4 shades in the collection. They’re the counterpart of the Or Vernis, 217 Or Étoilé, 527 Versailles, 841 Belle de Nuit, and 961 Nocturne.

Each of them also contain fine gold shimmers like the polishes do. The colors are also coordinating with the polishes, gold, brown, red and plum-ish burgundy.

Here is a swatch of the first 2 shades, 217 Or Étoilé (gold star), and 527 Versailles. Apparently Or Étoilé is a gold color with subtle gold shimmer. It goes on a lot lighter and sheerer than I thought. Versailles is a nude brown with subtle gold shimmer as well. It has better coverage than Or Étoilé.

This is a swatch of the other 2 shades 841 Belle de Nuit and 961 Nocturne. I almost doubt my eyes when I see Belle de Nuit, I thought I was holding something from Guerlain. See Guerlain holiday 2011 collection here, here and here. Though I wouldn’t mind having another beauty of the night during the holiday season. Nocturne is a plum wine color with subtle gold shimmer.

Here are all 4 shades swatched together. Even though the gold shimmers aren’t really visible, they add a lot of shine to the colors and making them even glow-y.

Since the gold shimmers aren’t already visible by applying the lipsticks alone, why not give them an extra boost by layering Or Étoilé on top. And the result is a warmer, tuned down version of golden gorgeousness. (Or Étoilé was thinly applied to the bottom half of Versailles, Belle de Nuit, and Nocturne.)

It’s well known that Dior and Gold have undetachable history. Let alone the name “DIOR” makes him the “God of Gold*.”He also had several gold themed couture collections in the 1940s. Fast forward to the Holiday 2011 Les Rouges Or collection, at the first sight none of the 8 polish and lipstick shades is really striking yet after applied all of them are extremely holiday and everyday friendly. What’s worse than splurging on high end stuff that you won’t be using as much as you like? On top of that, the formula of these are impeccable. The polishes are great 2 coaters and the lipsticks are nicely pigmented and very moisturizing. I don’t know what else I can ask for. The 2 key products in the collection are the gold toned polish and lipstick. They can be worn alone or on top of other shades giving them a more splendid effect.

*Dieu means God and Or means Gold

The nail polishes look very different with a coat of Or on them. But I like Apparat the most.

    • admin October 3, 2011 at 12:41 AM

Apparat is one of my faves. I purposely put Or on them to test out how they would look.

Do you have the 5 color palette by chance for review?

    • admin October 3, 2011 at 12:41 AM

Not yet. When I do I will have it up for you to see.

The lipsticks look so pretty and are pigmented to my surprise. I’ve never had anything from Dior so far (except for a lipgloss, which I returned three days after buying it).

What brand do you usually use?

      • Anna October 3, 2011 at 2:17 AM

        Guerlain and Chanel 🙂

Belle De Nuit is such a jolly red and very festive for the season. I was hoping Or Etoile would be a little more gold on the lips. It’s a little disappointing.

    • admin October 3, 2011 at 12:43 AM

Belle De Nuit’s red is really outstanding. The red is like Santa’s coat.

  7. Wengyz October 2, 2011 at 4:13 PM

Thank you for all the collection for Holiday.

  8. Kim Mika October 2, 2011 at 4:15 PM

Gorgeous swatches! I want to play with layering Or Étoilé over the few Rouge Dior lipsticks I own ;p. I love the formula of these lipsticks. They are the most moisturizing while highly pigmented lipsticks I have ever tried.

    • admin October 3, 2011 at 12:45 AM

Layering them on was really fun to play with. You should give it a try sometime.

  11. Jess October 3, 2011 at 1:04 AM

    The nail colors look divine!

Jess I know you’re a big fan of Dior polishes. Are you getting any from this collection?

  12. amy October 3, 2011 at 7:46 AM

I’m liking 651 Merveille, and 871 Apparat polish and Belle de Nuit lipstick. They are indeed very wearable.

    • admin October 3, 2011 at 10:53 PM

Those colors are really well in appearance. I almost mistaken Belle De Nuit for Guerlain.

  13. kristie October 3, 2011 at 12:40 PM

Thanks for the beautiful swatches. I love your idea of layering Or on top of the other shades. They actually look more unique with the gold on top. Can’t wait to check out this collection at the counters.

    • admin October 3, 2011 at 11:00 PM

Kristie thanks for stopping by! The Or really makes the others look unique after applying a layer on top of the stock colors.

I think Versailles and Apparat make a great combo for the holiday. Thanks for the review!
