Dior Holiday 2012 Grand Bal Collection Swatches and Review Part 1

Balls especially a Grand Bal can be seen or even depicted in fairy tales as a luxurious golden heavenly place. Music is played by a symphony orchestra and people dancing seem all so wonderful. Everyone seems merry and joyful. But that isn’t all, the dresses and gowns are all alive sparkly and majestic with elegance. The first thing that comes to my mind about a ball that I remembered is from Cinderella. Over the weekend, I saw a Cinderella doll that was titled, Holiday Princess 2012. Too bad my daughter didn’t want it because I was ready to take it home. Anyways, the doll itself had a lovely cool to the eye blue gown with the obvious, glass slippers. It just looked pretty much that Winter Wonderland was coming.

Now That Cinderella’s fairy godmother no longer exists, the couturier must be the magician,” said Christian Dior. So begins Grand Bal, a collection of makeup that is fit for a ball to match the best looking gowns and dresses.

Before we begin though, I should mention that, this is only PART 1 of the Holiday Collection. I got too overwhelmed over the past 2 weeks that I didn’t have a chance to complete the entire collection yet. Though there are enough items in this post to sparkle your eyes.

Starting off are the Dior 5-Couleurs Eyeshadow palettes in Night Golds #524 and Fairy Golds #764.

The Night Golds palette features 5 colors in the compact which can be seen as (from top left going clockwise, center to be the last):

Shimmering Nude Beige
Shiny Bronze
Pearly Light Brown
Pearly Gold
Matte Dark Chocolate with Sparse Gold Flecks

If you look closely you might notice that the shiny gold shade looks a bit dry and gritty but that isn’t the case! The texture is smoother than they seem. Powder glides on and adhere to the skin without much effort, especially when blending with the sponge applicator. The other 4 shades are even smoother and soft like butter. Pigmentation is also fantastic, most colors were only swiped once.

The second palette of the collection is Fairy Golds. Fairy Golds is similar to Night Golds but less golden. Here is a description of the colors:

Shimmering Champagne
Shiny Gold
Pearly Bronze
Pearly Taupe
Shiny Silver

Again the texture of the 2 shiny shades, gold and silver, are the same with the previous palette! They may seem to cause a lot of fallouts but when you actually applying these on the eyes, they become really easy to work with. This palette as a whole features smooth gliding with pigmented colors as well. The swatches proved themselves.

Diorific Long-Wearing True Color Lipsticks have got to be the best looking lipsticks I’ve seen in a long time. Each of them comes in a shiny golden packaging tube. They are highly reflective with luxurious gold color. Lightweight and easy to carry around is a better definition for them. Even the outside box comes in gold!!!

This entire collection introduces 4 colors, Diorling #037, Diva  #038, Lady #039, and Marilyn #040.

If you look at the lipstick, you will notice that it is able to stand up straight even though the end is in the shape of a ball. Look closely, you will notice that there is the brand, “Christian Dior,” etched on the bottom. Mechanism is a twist and turn as usual.

Each lipstick comes in the red… crimson… rouge… you get the picture family. There is a hint of scent that’s pleasant and very catchy to the nose. It’s the signature Dior lipstick scent.

Diorling 037 – Dark red with a hint of plum
Diva 038 – Bright red
Lady 039 – Red with a hint of beige
Marilyn 040 – Red with a hint of fuchsia

After swatching I have found the lipsticks to be highly pigmented. It isn’t the most moisturizing lipstick compared to the Dior Addicts but they’re definitely not dry either. There are no shimmers in neither of the color though the colors still look vibrant, dimensional and luminous. Since the swatch photo was taken under direct sunlight, you’ll be able to see the reflections from the light.

Besides haute couture lipsticks for the lips, there are 2 new Dior Addict Ultra-Glosses. I won’t go into packaging details since I have written about them many times in the past already.

The 2 shades are:

Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Flash Lame Gold #424
Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Pearl Ceremony Red #774

Lame Gold features a golden chrome color with a bit of metallic to it in the tube. There are gold and bronze shimmers enclosed. Do note that shimmers are completely scattered throughout the tube.

Ceremony Red is a very passionate red that you see during Christmas except with subtle shimmers. With hints of sparkling shines the red is quite bold in color but isn’t that what Xmas is always about?

I will show the swatches at the end of the post along with the shimmer powder.

Last but not least is a face powder. Not an ordinary one where you put it on and leave it there. Well face powders are all like that, except the collection calls for Gold Dust. You know the thing Tinker Bell dusts on you? It’s sort of like that. Though there aren’t magical powers for flying or floating. But there is for making your face glow radiantly while capturing the attention of many. From the Diorskin line comes:

Diorskin Poudre Libre Matte and Luminous Hydrating Loose Powder Gold Dust #431

I tried my best to show you how the dust… rather loose powder looks. It is beige toned with ultra fine gold dust infused.

As promised, both lip glosses swatch is here alongside the shimmer powder. Lame Gold is a bit sheer compare to the Ceremony Red, hence more translucent. Though, it could be used to highlight the natural lip colors with gold accents over the lips. If you want a bolder and more saturated tone, Ceremony Red would probably suffice. If you are adventurous, you could mix both lip glosses up overlaying the Lame Gold on top of the Ceremony Red. Red with golden accents instantly makes the lips dance! Finally, the Gold Dust loose powder features a natural looking flawless complexion that glows with radiance. Also since the powder is so smooth and the shimmer is so finely milled, it gives the skin a soft focus effect, just like wearing a thin veil crafted by a magician.

After finishing up with Part 1 of the Grand Bal collection, I noticed that there is already a complete face look with these products. It is all about highlighting the face with gold. Who doesn’t like gold…!? The packaging design on the lipsticks are especially striking and really fit for a grand night whereas everything else contributes to complete the perfect look. The Grand Bal holiday will be an unforgettable holiday that everyone is looking forward to.

Grand Bal will soon be available at national retailers and Dior Boutiques.

The 2 palettes are really hard to pick, aren’t they? I wish I knew which one to suggest to you because they are both pretty in their own way. There are even more amazing pieces in the holiday collection.
