Dior Holiday 2012 Palette Grand Bal 001 Carnet de Maquillage Swatches Review – Holiday Collection Part 4

Prestige is worth its weight. Luxury items are usually very well designed and magnificently pretty, not to mention the eye catching factor. All of Dior’s Holiday 2012 collection thus far are focused with one theme, golden color looking sparkly with a sense of royalty. Previously there were posts dedicated to the collection which included, the 4 nail polishes, temporary tattoos and false lashes, and finally a mix of the eye shadow palettes with lip products.

Though we are missing the star item or if you call it centerpiece of the entire collection, the grand palette for the grand bal. Don’t worry! Today’s post will solely dedicate to this palette. Now let’s make way for Dior Carnet de Maquillage, for an easier reading it is the makeup palette for glowing eyes & lips.

Before we begin to go in depth about this palette, let’s first talk about the background history. The inspiration for this palette came from dance cards that were held by young women in the 18th century. The cards help kept track of their dance partners. So fast forward till modern day today, we now have a compact beauty kit. Not just any beauty kit though, it is dazzling gold that is fit for a lavish Grand Bal.

When you first take out this beauty kit, you will notice that it is locked. On the front side of the palette, a deep back eyeliner acts as a locking mechanism.

The good thing is that the eyeliner can be slided through and taken out. So your palette wouldn’t be locked forever.

I took a bit extra photos for you to see the overview of the palette.

Inside the palette, a pearl shadow duo of gold and platinum reside on the left side. On the bottom right, there are two applicators, one double ended sponge for the eyes and one single brush for the lips. Above the applicators, there’s a trap door close shut protecting the two shades of gloss. We’ve seen the trap door design many times in the past, Garden Clutch from Spring 2012 and Blue Tie from Fall 2011, so we won’t go into too much detail about that. There’s a full sized mirror also included on the top of the palette for easy touch-ups.

Here’s a close up of the Deep Black Eyeliner and 2 enclosed applicators. Remember to keep the eyeliner as short as possible to avoid breakage.

So by now let’s go ahead and talk about the inside of this gold clutch’s colors. The palette holds 2 shadow duos which is easy seen with the colors of gold and platinum. Each shadow contains multi-colored pearly shimmers. Inside the trap door are two lip glosses. The lip glosses are different in the fact that one is transparent champagne whereas the other is a reddish coral. Last but not least, the liner itself feels like a creamy deep black.

The duo eye shadows appear in great details which resembling strands of metallic wires. The photos below were taken with camera flash and under direct sunlight respectively to show you how reflective the shadows are.

Here are some close-ups of the eyeshadows.

Then we have the lip glosses.

During the swatch, I noticed that the universal deep black eyeliner felt creamy and easy to use. The tip of the liner is precise enough to draw very thin lines. The shadows on the other hand, had really glowy multi-colored pearly shimmer. They were indeed gold and platinum in color that out-dazzle the sun easily. In real life they look extremely sparkly and pretty. And the pigmentation is superb, as a matter of fact they’re the most pigmented gold and silver I’ve seen. With just a light swipe on the pan, you would be able to achieve intense color. The shadows are also finely milled that glide on smoothly and blend beautifully. Overall I’m loving the quality of them. Looking at the lippies, I noticed two things. The transparent color gloss could be used as a top coat. That color even has gold sheen scattered all throughout. The darker gloss is a flattering coral red. Both colors are easy to wear for any skin tone.

And last but not least, here is the entire look from the swatches. Dior Grand Bal was written with the eyeliner.

This luxurious golden colored palette, is pretty much everything that you need for a party night or everyday on the go. It can be used for touch ups or a complete look for after work and headed straight to the party. Each color is glowing with style, and at the same time very elegant and highly wearable.

Dior Grand Bal Palette along with the rest of the collection will be dancing at Dior.com and Dior Counters nationwide this holiday.

The palette is quite stunningly pretty when you have it in hand. I like the bit of weight for some reason.

The photos were a bit hard to take on this palette. I think it was because of the highly reflective material. Nonetheless, the palette is a one stop shop for all your needs. Well most of it at least!
