Dior Makeup Fall 2012 Golden Jungle Collection Eyeshadow Palette and Nail Polish Swatches and Review
For Fall 2012, we have seen several collections already. Laura Mercier’s Cinema Noir was the first, then it was Chanel and its nail polishes. Laura’s theme was quite unique bringing a crime, suspense, and thriller styled set of colors. Chanel on the other hand, is by far is an overall major disappointment in terms of theme organization and color scheme. The colors from Chanel look awfully alike for some ever reason. When I first saw the collection, I was like, “Did I see this from somewhere before?” Their star item also has became boring because the only difference is the design pattern and nothing more.
Enough about Chanel, let’s talk about Dior now. Dior’s Fall 2012 has wowed me off the chair. There is a nice looking jungle panther themed palette in a heavyweight case design that is shiny and sleek to the touch. And there’s this brand new khaki themed designer palette and a gorgeous golden/brown 5-colour eyeshadow palette along with 3 fashion forward nail polishes! Let’s see how they stack up.
Golden Jungle Essentials For Radiant Eyes & Lips Panther Eyeshadows & Lip Gloss 002 Golden Browns
This jungle panther themed palette has both the eyes and the lips covered. Not only that, it comes with 2 dual-end applicator brushes that you can use, housed all inside this sleek metal case. What is more is that the lip color is hidden behind a trap door so that the shadows don’t get mixed up with the lips. We don’t want panther printed lips stain right? Anyways the palette is sexy and fierce like the feline panther.
In this palette you can see that there is a grand total of 3 colors that can be used for the eyes and a single shiny lip color hidden inside the trap door. The first eye color that can be noted is the pale beige. It is ultimately matte after the first use. On the initial use their are shimmers but it wears off. The next color is the dark brown which is also matte. Last but not least is a coppery bronze color that depicts satin. You probably want to know what is inside the trap door don’t you? It is a peachy beige brown that comes with gold shimmers.
Here is an up close look at the panther pattern along with the lip color in natural light.
In the sun setting, you can see a bit more details of the palette.
What can I say, the colors are so pigmented and pretty. Not only was it easy to apply, the formula glides right across the skin. The colors give a strong jungle like theme which is quite nice when compared with the summer collection, especially with the season change. The second photo was taken in direct sunlight.
5 Couleurs Designer All-In-One Artistry Palette 308 Khaki Design
This designer palette is what is known to be an architect palette. It is a kit that is complete with everything you need from starting with the base, color, shadow, shine, and liner. An ALL-IN-ONE! Just imagine yourself putting on a thinking cap and designing a building before architectural work is performed except in this case it is for the eyes. This differ from traditional palettes which usually only come with shadows. On the back of the box, there is a diagram showing you how to use the palette.
The way this palette works is that on the lower left is the base. You would move to the center which is the color. Then comes the shadow on the top left. Adding shine would be top right. Last but not least is the liner on the bottom right. For the colors it is as follows:
Lower Left: shiny pale champaign, super finely milled shimmer
Center: iridescent golden moss green
Top Left: intense olive green with soft shimmer
Top Right: pearly golden champaign, a hint of green, with fine multi color shimmers
Lower Right: dark matte black with a hint of green
Here is a look at the palette in the sun.
As you might notice by now, the palette sports a green / olive suite of color theme. Shimmery, pigmented, and enhancing for the lids are what I would call this palette. The palette simply sparkles. Did I mention the palette comes with 2 double ended applicators with a liner brush?
5 Couleurs Couture Colour Eyeshadow Palette 774 Golden Savannah
Golden Savannah is the new 5 colour palette. Differing itself from the Designer palette above, this palette gives you a contrasted complete look for the eyes. A deeper or lighter style eye design or possibly even multiple looks! It comes with colors that can be seen in a brown and coppery theme.
Looking at the palette, starting from the top left going clockwise ending at the center, the colors are:
Golden mocha brown, satin finish
Bronze copper, pearly finish
Chocolate brown, satin finish
Shiny golden champaign
In direct sunlight, you can see the entire palette light up depicting all the sorts of details.
When I swatched this palette, I noticed the pigmentation was rich in the palette and the powders are ultra smooth. It also had a lot of shine to it. The jungle like colors give a complete highlighting look for fall.
Here is a side by side comparison of the two palettes. Two very different palettes both are very fall like, but the Golden Savannah gives a brighter and shinier look. Also note that every color including the liner in Khaki design has a hint of green, whereas compared to the gold tone in Golden Savannah.
Last but not least are the 3 new nail polishes. Each color aligns itself matching the eye shadow colors of the rest of the collection. It almost makes me think of Dior’s Summer Mix. Maybe not as extravagant in bright colors but something more align with the fall season.
Dior Vernis 207 Or Lumière Golden Light
Golden Light can be seen as a nude beige base with metallic gold and silver shimmers. It is illuminating and doesn’t have any streaks or brush marks upon use. As versatile as it gets, a single coat gives a sheer hint of golden shine whereas dual coats turns opaque. Contrary to the gritty look, the surface dries to an ultra smooth finish.
The photo seen is a single coat.
Below you can see how a dual coat without and with flash.
Dior Vernis 605 Amazonia
Amazonia is a dark grey color with hints of olive green. It is sheer and streaky with a single coat. With a dual coat, it becomes perfectly opaque. Smooth, even, and glossy can all be used to describe the finished look.
Here are two pictures below with 2 coats application without and with camera flash.
Dior Vernis 615 Bengale
Lastly, Bengale is a dark safari brown creme. This nail polish needs a minimal of two coats for a smooth glossy finish. Color isn’t the most unique but it is chic and polished.
The last two pictures to the post. Both are 2 coats application without and with flash.
After seeing this entire collection, Dior has a well thought out and organized collection. It revolves around the Golden Jungle theme and has colors that are jumping out it. The collection is also a great transition from its summer collection which was full of brighter colors. Each of the eye shadows are lovely formulated for pigmentation and wearability. The variations range from colors to texture and even a on-the-go eye/lip palette. The nail polishes add a complete addition to match the overall look of the collection.
