Dior Vernis City Gris – 707 Gris Montaigne, 797 Bond Street and 807 NY 57th

Happy Friday! Anyone got plans for the long weekend? I’ll probably just stay home and chill. Anyways…Β Today I’ll be featuring the other 2 polishes that I promised in my previous post. Together with Gris Montaigne, this will complete the Dior City Gris collection, which is a limited edition polish trio for Winter 2010/Spring 2011.

Let’s look at some pictures of the polishes first.

From left to right

707 Gris Montaigne, PARIS : Sleek and elegant, the very iconic color of the Dior House.

797 Bond Street, LONDON : A grey London fog infused with a touch of blue, urban chic…

807 NY 57th, NEW YORK : A metallic asphalt, a homage to the dusky light of the Manhattan skyline.

Since I’ve already showed swatches of Gris Montaigne in another post, I’ll mainly focus on Bond Street and NY 57th. Later on, I’ll show you how they look together.

Bond Street with 1 coat under natural lighting. As you probably notice, the coverage isn’t completely opaque as some places are still see-through. So a second coat is definitely needed.

2 coats natural lighting. Now with 2 coats, the color is much more intense and even looking. It shows a deep foggy blue hue.

2 coats under direct sunlight. The blue tone is more detectable in the sun.

NY 57th 1 coat under natural lighting. The coverage is a lot better than Bond Street but since it’s a pearl-metallic finish, there shows brush marks.

2 coats under natural lighting. You think it’s still streaky with 2 coats. But it really was the camera, that exaggerated the brush marks. In real life, I can hardly see them in reading distance.

2 coats under direct sunlight

707 Gris Montaigne, 797 Bond Street and 807 NY 57th stand side by side under natural lighting.

Under direct sunlight.

Under the flash. Now the gray and blue undertone are more visible for Gris Montaigne and Bond Street.

My thoughts:

First of all, the whole collection is really interesting. Each one of them has its own unique character. Gris Montaigne is that classic elegant neutral gray. Bond Street looks black at first sight, but its true blue tone shows up under certain degree and in the sunlight. NY 57th is a beautiful gunmetal gray that’s close to Chanel’s Steel, but not as deep.

Consistency wise, I like Gris Montaigne and NY 57th. Both are easy to apply and foolproof. It’s not likely to leave brush marks or look uneven. Bond Street is thicker so it’s a bit harder to manage. It also needs 2 coats to achieve the evenly opaque finish. But since it’s got the unique foggy blue undertone, I think the effort is well worth it.

Finish wise, all three are really great. Gris Montaigne and Bond Street are matt cream finish, and NY 57th is in the middle of pearl and metallic finish. These pictures are taken with just two coats of polishes without any top coats. So I’m sure the result will look even better with top coats on.

Overall I’d say this is a beautiful collection that any Dior polish fan should collect. Gris Montaigne is available at all Dior counters but Bond Street and NY 57th are only available at Dior.com for now.
