Guerlain Holiday 2011 Meteorites Perles de Nuit Illuminating Powder Review and Comparison
Each year Guerlain’s holiday collection is extra special with collectors items that are not seen everyday. This year, I want to show you Guerlain’s ever so famous Meteorites from the Belle De Nuit collection!
With one glance, Guerlain’s signature design, the teal blue tin box is none other than this year’s Holiday 2011’s Meteorites!
Guerlain Meteorites Perles De Nuit. Perles De Nuit means Pearls of Night.
Upon opening the lid, I spot a black sponge inside instead of the regular velour cover. At first I didn’t like it because it doesn’t have the luxurious feel to it. But later on when I tried to pick it up, it was a lot easier than the velour cover, just give it a good pinch.
I really don’t think the sponge cover was meant to be used as an applicator, so was the velour cover. The best way to apply the powder is to use a brush. I like to use my Cle de Peau cheek brush but Guerlain offers their own version of Meteorites brush. It is made of good quality goat hair and dyed pink.
The pearls scattered around giving a warm tone for the holiday.
The shot was taken with flash.
In direct sunlight.
There are 5 color pearls pink, white, silver, orange and gold. According to Guerlain, pink pearls are to capture light, white to illuminate the complexion, gold to reflect light, orange to boost radiance and silver to add shimmer without whitening the skin.
This is a close up shot taken in direct sunlight. As you can see, the pearls look really illuminating.
Compare to the previous holiday meteorites, from left to right we have 2009 Perles Imperials, 2010 Perles D’or and 2011 Perles de Nuit. Perles de Nuit has more similar outside packaging to the 2009 version. Compare to last year, the cardboard box isn’t as sturdy, the insert is also omitted but there’s a teal/black pattern inside which matches the tin box. I’m glad to see Guerlain cut some cost on the cardboard box and instead spend it on the inside product. I know most people are going to throw the box away anyway.
These are the actual products taken out of the box, Perles Imperiales was 2009 holiday meteorites whereas Perles D’or was for 2010 holiday.
The inside covers have changed over the years. In 2009 it was white velour and 2010 it became black. This year, it became a sponge cover. Like I said earlier, I think the sponge cover is easier to be taken out than the velour. Though it doesn’t look as luxurious, it’s more practical.
With the pearls lying side by side, you can see that 2009 and this year has the most similarities with the exception of silver pearls this year. 2010 was on the warmer side because of the pink and violet pearls.
By putting the both 2010 and 2011 tin cans side by side the difference is pretty dramatic. 2010 was probably the coolest because of the little gold bee. But 2011 is really sensual and calming, hence the name “Nuit”.
I decided to put each box side by side to compare the differences on the outside. Note 02 Teint Beige and 03 Teint Dore are not featured because they have the exact same outside look as the 01 Teint Rose. In the past Guerlain had cross design (top 2), now they have a much simpler but elegant look with a silver band on the bottom of the box with the name for their meteorites.
I decided to take out the 3 cardboard box meteorites from some years ago which were 01 Mythic, 02 Pink Fresh, and 03 Beige Chic. I do not have the packagings because I split these with my sister. We will never be able to use up the entire jar.
I also made a short video to show you how easy to take out the sponge cover and a swatch of it in the sun. Enjoy!
Throughout the years, Guerlain has constantly set the trend for a different complexion with its meteorites. This year, there is something new, and it’s the silver pearl! The silver pearl is the one key pearl that gives a brighter look with a cool tone for winter and holiday season. Even though the effect isn’t dramatic, it makes you look glowy with a hint of snowy white on the cheeks. The glow is so fine that even camera cannot capture. You just have to apply it to tell the difference.
With all the meteorites in common, Perles de Nuit enhances the complexion in a subtle way. Don’t think it’s similar to one that you already have, it’s just one luxurious item that you know you want to indulge and it’s quite addicting. Once you start, you’ll want everyone of them.

so pretty! I’ve always wanted some of the Meteorites… they just are fun to look at!
Boxes of meteorites last a while. You should try one!
Yes, we will not be able to finish a box of Meteorites. But mine is slowly finishing, err….because, from time to time, a pearl dropped here, another pearl dropped there…. and my Mythic is down to about 20 pearls only. I am happy, because soon I can buy a the new version of Meteorites.
And yes, the silver pearls look very pretty.
Haha… the pearls dropping sounds hilarious. The mythic was a really nice box though.
I love the teal metal packaging a lot. It does look calming. Also thanks for the awesome comparison and review!
The teal metal packaging is a very different look from what I have. It is calming.
Ah I forgot to ask if this also have the Guerlain violet scent like the others?

OMG you have so many meteorites! I really like the white one and this year’s silver. They are both so pretty! Thanks for the video too, it looks really nice.
Thanks for watching !
thanks for the review. very interesting to compare.
The comparison had me thinking for a while. They all look wonderful!
I really love your photos and review. But you’re so bad, after seeing your reviews, I always want to buy stuff. So which meteorites is your favorite?
Honestly, there is no meteorites that is my favorite. I love them all because each one is a collectors item to me. Although, I want to mention to you that after using the meteorites the colors are a bit different.
I love the color of the tin! The teal blue is so pretty.
Thank you for the extensive review of not just this year’s holiday release but in comparison with the past years. It was very informative.
Your welcome! I had to compare it with the previous years because I too wanted to know what difference in color each year was about.
Great review! I’ve been trying to collect these meteorites for a while. Although they all kind of look similar, I just can’t resist.
I wish they have mini versions so the price won’t be so expensive. By the way, what nail color did you have in your video?
The nail color in the video is Chanel Coco Blue from the Fashion Night Out Collection.
Aww these pearls are just too cute! I really love them. You’re right on the “addicting” part. After I got the Teint Dore, I really fell in love and bought Teint Rose.
I also love my meteorites. I’ve been using different ones every time. They all seem great haha.
The shimmers look so pretty in the video. I need this!
Ah METEORITES! They’re my favorites from Guerlain. I really love this year’s teal black tin jar, so cute!
Same with me! The first thing I think of Guerlain would be the meteorites though I love everything from Guerlain. But yea they’re the best.
I just bought this and the Parure Palette on Ahalife. Thanks for the review.
