Guerlain Spring 2012 Ecrin 4 Couleurs Eyeshadow 11 Les Roses, Noir G Mascara 01 Noir Swatch Review and Look

Can you believe it?! Spring Collection is right around the corner and it is barely December! Time flies by so quickly. What do you think of when it comes to Spring? The flowers are blooming and the weather will be warmer. Everything comes to life with lots of pinks, roses, berries and even blues.

That is what Guerlain has encapsulated into their Spring 2012 Collection. There is one brilliant eyeshadow quad Ecrin 4 Couleurs Eyeshadow palette in 11 Les Roses that is so spring. And the most innovative to date mascara is a huge blast in technology. Changing the way you think and use your mascara. Let’s take a look…

The eyeshadow palette retails for $59.00 whereas the mascara retails for $49.00. The refill on the mascara is $26.00. These products along with the rest of the Guerlain Spring 2012 Collection will be available in January 2012. If you haven’t seen the press releases on how the entire set looks check it out here and here.

Let’s start off with the 4 color eyeshadow palette first. The newest addition to the Ecin 4 Couleurs, Les Roses is a fresh, blossoming of roses color with hints and traces of shimmers. The palette reminds me of spring. It’s like after the first spring rain when you open your window you see the butterflies wandering about and the flowers smiling. The scenery is just splendid.

The palette comes in a nicely weighted compact with the color being gold on the outside. It symbolically represents Guerlain’s prestige and class. Also, there is a velvety pouch that is soft and also protect any scratches to the precious palette.

On the back of the palette it gives an overview of the 4 eyeshadows that is included inside. Don’t forget to read the manual first as it reminds us on the bottom left. The net wt of this is .25 oz. In the picture below the duo sponge applicator is very soft to the touch and lightweight.

The colors are as follows, from light to dark: iridescent pink with pearl particles (top), matte pink (bottom), metallic violet (left), and raspberry shade with a velvety finish (right.)

I took 3 different shots of this palette below to give you a comparison look at how they perform altogether. The first picture is taken under nature light whereas the second one was sunlight. Finally, the third one is with flash. As you might notice the pictures with both sunlight and flash show the shimmers and details that went into crafting each eyeshadow. It’s more lively.

Here is the part of manual on how to use the eyeshadow. You can get 3 different looks out of this palette.

The colors going from left to right are metallic violet, iridescent pink, matte pink, and raspberry shade. All of the shades are soft and very fit for spring. Despite they have different textures and finishes, all 4 shades have soft pigmentation with super finely milled powders. They are easily blendable and buildable. The powders adhere to the skin like no other, in other words, minimum to none shadow fallouts.

Next let’s talk about the mascara! Well… mascara refill. Have you seen a refillable mascara? Well it’s a dream come true moment!

The refill comes in a tube that can be twisted off. There is a detailed instruction on how to install the refill on the manual. Make sure to read it before you proceed. But let’s take a look at the wand and such. The wand is easy to use and the bristles cover every single lash like magic. The pigmentation is so dark, it adds a lot of depth and volume to the lashes while lengthening and holding curls at the maximum. The formula is also enriched with Artemia Salina for stimulating keratin production for lash growth. That’s like a lash serum built in the mascara.

What I like even more about this mascara is it’s actually scented with rosy violet. I’m not sure if you had the same experience with a stinky mascara after several use, you just want to toss it away. With the Guerlain Noir G I have the urge of smelling it all day long, even though I shouldn’t.

For the look, I went for the soft smoky effet on eye chart #3. First of all, I used shimmering iridescent pink all over the lid, dabbed matt pink starting from lash line up to the crease, accentuated outer half with the velvety raspberry pink. To balance out the color, I fully lined the eyes with a black liner and softened it up with the metallic violet shade. Much to my surprise, these soft pink shades did not make eyes look puffy at all. It’s fresh, illuminating and very spring like.

Nothing makes the soft pink eyes pop more than a set of intense black eyelash. Of course I am using the Noir G mascara 01 Noir. The brush head is slim enough for an easy application. The bristles separate and lengthen each lash and every lash even the hard to reach ones. The lightweight formula also holds curls for hours without smudging and flaking. It’s definitely one of my newly found favorite. I also used Guerlain Meteorites Perles de Nuit to lighten up the complexion and the under eye area for a even fresher and brighter look. See Perles de Nuit swatches here.

The colors on the palette is so spring with great quality. There is absolutely no fall out with longevity on use. The great thing about the mascara is the ability for it to be recharged or refilled without spending the extra money to buy a brand new one with the whole package. So just imagine the full mascara is $49.00 and a refill is $26.00. Buying a refill is equivalent to almost 1/2 the price of a full mascara. What a deal for such a high end product!

The colors on the palette are a little too pink for me. But otherwise, it looks good on your EOTD.

Pink is a great color for spring. I was initially afraid the color will make my eyes puffy but it pulled off really nicely.

This season is so pinkish colors. I love these! I wish I could see the entire mascara. It does look interesting enough though.

Awww… will you be getting the other quad or any other items?

      • time4beauty December 5, 2011 at 3:31 AM

I don’t really like Guerlain quads. But I want to by this new mascara 🙂

OH I see. You won’t be disappointed with the mascara. It’s really the best.

This palette and the other 6 color one probably all look the same. I don’t think it’s really worth the extra money so I will settle for this one. I am in the market looking for a pink one and oddly enough this one looks very lux.

You really can’t go wrong with Guerlain. For the quality $59 on an eyeshadow palette isn’t bad at all.

  7. Citrine December 4, 2011 at 12:08 PM

Ahh, I like your eye color, it looks so good with the pink shades. (Anyway, the palette itself reminds me of an allergic reaction I had a week ago…)

      LOL you’re funny but thanks!

How can that mascara possibly be installed as a refill. I just cant picture it. It seems so odd.

    • admin December 5, 2011 at 3:32 AM

There is a button on top of the case that you can push to release the empty mascara tube. There is a detailed instruction in the box which is super easy to follow.

I need the palette. It is so pretty!

I just wish they would have added an end cap to hide that socket piece. Otherwise this mascara is innovative and gorgeous. Then again, Guerlain never disappoints me. Their Rouge G lipstick is the best on the market, and they have such a rich history of over 100 year in the business.

Thanks for stopping by. Btw, your drawing is really neat on the header of your blog! Very artistic too.
