Guerlain Vol De Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder Face & Body Review

A bottle that is designed like a parfum with unique edges and a spray, what are the words, “Vol De Nuit?” Taking a closer look it’s a peacock navy bottle that conceals the interior from any colors bleeding out to the naked eye. What we have is a creation from the geniuses at Guerlain, Vol De Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder Face & Body. Can you believe the company is almost 200 years in age!?

The words “Vol De Nuit” were from 1933 when Jacques Guerlain gave the name to one of his parfums. Vol De Nuit was named after a novel by a poet and aviator named Antoine de Saint-Exupery. So the background history about the parfum tributes to women who like to take risks.

Here is a list of the ingredients.

Popping open the box the first two things we notice is the interior design for this season of turquoise and black along with the spray.

The design is amazingly a work of art. It’s like an exotic bottle that sprays magical dusts upon contact. I did wish it sprayed magical dusts that enabled me to float in the air or even fly (OK so I am dreaming!).

Like always, there’s a sticker on the spray nozzle preventing powder spill during transit. I just leave mine on there when I’m not using it.

The same vintage designed squeeze bulb made this a real collector’s toy. It’s kind of fun to play with but I am being extra careful to savor it, since’s it’s another collectors item for me!

So in an atmosphere with natural lighting, you could see a bit of shimmer. It sticks really well to the skin and you won’t feel a thing! That is how fine the dusts are made!

BUT!!!!!!!!! If you stuck your hand under sunlight, that’s a whole different story. The magic happens now! The sparkles and shimmers and glitters and shines are all seen reflecting back at the light. It’s like an iridescent milky way that is made of diamonds.

Yes, I had to take out my last year’s box of goody. I needed to compare Vol De Nuit with Or Imperial to see the difference.

First off, Or Imperial is taller in size than Vol De Nuit. But Vol De Nuit is a bit more obese than the slim fellow. Which is a good thing! Because obese means there’s more content inside! Just for the record, Vol De Nuit is .5g more than Or Imperial. The name of the powder also changed from “Sublime Radiant Powder” to “Perfumed Shimmer Powder”, so we’re expecting more shimmer this year.

So looking at both designs Or Imperial has a more royal and feminine look. But Vol De Nuit is like a hidden treasure that is waiting to be found that holds mysterious magical powers. Both of them are very different in appearance. I say the winner is Vol De Nuit because I am a bit more adventurous, I don’t like being locked up in a royal palace.

In an effort to compare both, I sprayed both side by side to see what the difference in color was. Or Imperial held golden dust and Vol De Nuit a more brilliant peach toned shimmer which has multi-colored dusts including sapphire.

I also made a short video to show you how the powder looks like and how it compares to Or Imperial. Though it can’t compare to what our naked eye sees in real life.

I really love the bottle design on this years spray even though it looks just like the 1933 parfum. Initially I thought the spray was going to be golden dusts but instead, it is peachy and shines like diamond. The color is more fitted under my preference. A little spray goes a long way because of how fine it is. There is no real need to spray 10x on each use because that would just be a waste.

Come to think of it, that color isn’t bad. It is quite nice especially the pigmentation.

Vol De Nuit has a really interesting design compared to last year’s spray. The colors are also different as well. I am still confused on one thing, of all the colors why did Guerlain choose a color that we cannot see the inside clearly.

I think it’s for the intriguing factor.

I remembered these being quite pricy compare. How long do you think it’ll last? Do you think it will look too over on the face?

    • admin September 23, 2011 at 9:38 PM

The whole night. I mean, it lasts for hours, it’s quite long lasting.

      • Tina Lawrance September 25, 2011 at 8:02 AM

I got this on Ahalife. It can’t be resisted.

Super pretty! I’m not sure how often I will be using it though so I’m getting the meteorites and the pressed powder instead.

    • admin September 23, 2011 at 9:38 PM

I put it in my Beauty Vault because of it’s one of a kind.

Thank you. We were trying to make it a bit more mysterious but it was a bit hard to capture all the effects.
