Meiji Amino Collagen vs. Premium Collagen

It’s been a while since my last review post. Please accept my apology for not doing it more often. I’m also sorry for slow on communicating with my blogger friends and replying to your comments. We all know how busy it gets at the end of the year. Hope you understand.

Today I’m going to review the popular health supplement, Amino Collagen powder drink from Meiji.

I’ve tried both regular Amino Collagen powder and the Premium version. Both are available at

I got the regular one in the can from Japan so there’s no english translation. As you can see, the powder will go with just about anything, coffee, juice, even yogurt.

The Premium powder is in a gold can. Enlarge the picture to see detailed information.

This is the side by side comparison of the nutrition fact. The only difference between the regular and the premium is that the premium contains 60mg Hyaluronic Acid and Coenzyme Q10 10mg per 7g of powder. I almost broke 2 nails to clean up the glue on the can. Blame on the importer for using such a strong sticker.

These are the measuring spoons that came with the cans. They looks pretty much similar if not the same.

Use the inside of the cap to level your spoon.

Now you have it, 7g of powder. That’s all you need for one day consumption. Enjoy!

Now move on to the review part.

Honestly, both have been doing a great job in terms of restoring skin elasticity and make me feel good. The regular powder has a little bit of weird taste and is a little harder to dissolve but still very acceptable. Especially when you drink it with coffee, that’s what I do everyday.

Both need to be taken for a while until you really see the results. It took me about 2 months then I noticed my skin texture got smoother, skin tone got brighter. It even helps my breakout scars to fade faster.

It’s no brainer that these collagen powder really works. If you want your skin still looks as good as now when you get older, you should consider drinking it. It’s always good to get the can first then buy the refills. That way you have a spoon to measure out what you need. Then get the refill, at the same price as the can, you get 2 days extra.

Does the premium version really worth the price jump? Well it really depends, but remember you get what you pay for. The regular is more than $10 cheaper than the premium. If you just want better looking skin, regular will suffice. But if you want more benefits including taste, you gotta go premium.

To end this review, let me show you some facts that I quoted from

Collagen holds the key to “youthfulness and beauty”. The amount of collagen in your skin starts to drop sharply after the age of 20. Collagen helps to restore skin elasticity and diminish fine lines. Therefore, replenishing generous amounts of collagen is a shortcut to maintaining a youthful appearance. Meiji Amino Collagen is made by high quality of fish collagen peptide, it contains very low calories.

The benchmark amount is 5000 mg, because about one-third of the amount of protein we need per day, one spoon (7g) per day is strongly recommended.

Meiji Amino Collagen Premium adopts the collagen derived from high quality fish. Refined with the latest technology, the Low Molecular Collagen Peptide is readily absorbed by human body. Convenient consumption as it goes along with any drinks.   Each can (200g) is enough for 28-day consumption (7g daily).

Benefits of the ingredients:

Amino Collagen—enhances the elasticity and the moisture content of skin to smooth away wrinkles, controls sebum secretion and leaves skin radiant and firm. Coenzyme Q10—accelerates metabolism to maintain healthy skin cell, fights against aging. Hyaluronic Acid—enhances skin’s moisture capacity, leaves skin supple and dewy. Arginine—necessary for creating protein, maintain healthy skin. Glucosamine—necessary for creating collagen for youthful-looking skin.

Is amino gold can suitable for 26 years old lady? What about men? Can they drink this product as well? What’s the side effect for new beginners when they start to consume this product?

Ooh thanks for this review! I’ve wanted to try a collagen powder for some time now, but didn’t know which one to get. Was afraid I would end up with something that made my coffee taste like.. fish or something. 😡 lol. As soon as my makeup ban is over I’ll head over to Sasa or something. ^^

    • admin December 7, 2010 at 2:18 PM

it doesn’t really smell like fish or anything bad. maybe a hint of creamer but you won’t notice it once you drink it with coffee or juice.

  4. Krysten December 5, 2010 at 7:58 AM

    Huh, sounds interesting!

Wah thank you for this very comprehensive and helpful review, I’ve been interested in this product ever since Fuzkittie mentioned it. Ugh I hate sticky residue from labels haha. Does the regular Collagen powder taste funny or anything? I’m def. going to ask for this for Christmas. ^^

    • admin December 7, 2010 at 2:20 PM

the regular one has a little bit of creamer taste but not that bad at all. the gold one is even better.

wow very to the point review. Thank you very much. btw i tried the white can when i was in Japan and bought a refill but i stopped when i got pregnant i was afraid i am not supposed to use it during pregnancy 🙁 too bad. now i wanna buy it again seems i will go for the premium one since i will be hitting 30 soon. (><)

    • admin February 28, 2011 at 2:55 PM

congrats on your pregnancy! i’d be super careful during my pregnancy as well. i didn’t know the premium was for someone over 30 but overall i just think it’s better than the white can, though it’s more expensive.

  14. Sunshine March 30, 2011 at 1:00 PM

I love this product! Like everyone else I had the fresh look without makeup that my sister envied!
The one thing I found out is that it not good to use more than a spoonful (found in the can) because it will make you break out! I am so glad that sasa sells it now! I can’t wait for my package to come in!

  15. Rash June 26, 2011 at 6:33 AM

    • admin June 26, 2011 at 12:51 PM

definitely try it. for your question, i never thought of that and i really don’t know if it’s ok for kids. you should consult your pediatric before you give it to a kid.

  16. mimi November 29, 2011 at 8:39 PM

hi im 23 years old so what is good for me the white or the gold?

    • admin November 29, 2011 at 8:42 PM

Since your still young the white one is probably enough for you. It is also cheaper in terms of pricing. The gold one has COQ10.

  17. Chess June 17, 2012 at 12:55 PM

Hi! Is this drink good for girls only?

    • Fruity June 19, 2012 at 2:47 AM

This drink is good for girls. Men drink collagen too which isn’t such a bad thing. I think it is because of beauty / skin.

  18. maricel cruz June 18, 2012 at 5:30 AM

how much is the gold can and the white can?how to order?tnx

  19. justine July 24, 2012 at 3:30 PM

Do you have any experience with the “Fine” brand of collagen drink? I bought some from, the reviews seemed promising but after I bought them, i checked reviews from other sites and found a lot of people didn’t have any positive reviews of the “fine” brand and recommended Meiji instead. I’ve just finished my first can of the “Fine” brand and i haven’t noted results yet.

    • Fruity July 24, 2012 at 6:32 PM

I actually did try FINE a while back and did a review on it, link here. Overall it wasn’t that great for me so I don’t recommend it. Now I’m back on Meiji powders and tablets.

  20. Elise August 5, 2012 at 7:15 PM

Hi, I always wanted to try out collagen drink but I don’t know which brand should I go for. 🙁 What’s your recommendation? Do you know is there any side effects for the collagen drink?

    • Fruity August 10, 2012 at 3:57 AM

I use Meiji Premium right now. According to side effects, I don’t know of any at this point.

  21. Janelle September 5, 2012 at 7:52 PM

Hi, have you ever tried neocell? Thanks!

    • Fruity September 6, 2012 at 1:35 AM

Hi Janelle, I actually never tried Neocell brand. Is it good?

      • Janelle September 6, 2012 at 12:42 PM

No, I haven’t! I actually haven’t tried anything yet (new to all this) I asked a friend (who does weight lifting) and he said studies show no benefits, body won’t absorb, waste of time… etc…totally made me feel like why bothering but I’ve been seeing people say they get lots of results in terms of hair, skin, joints…

I did buy the neocell today (capsules) since vitamin shoppe is right near me and it’s well reviewed and cheaper. If it does something for me, enough to see a difference, I’ll shell out the extra cash and try the Meiji version as well…I really want to see if I’ll benefit from this. I’m 29 and look youthful but hey. Whatever helps right? 🙂

        • Fruity September 6, 2012 at 1:30 PM

Yea I’ve seen that kind of study online as well. Though collagen drinks really do make my skin soft when I drink them, so I’m going to say it works for me. Please let me know if the Neocell capsules do any good to you. Fingers crossed ^^

  23. BY October 26, 2012 at 5:14 PM

Hi, I’m 30+.may I know which is more suitable for me ? White or gold?

    • Fruity Lashes October 26, 2012 at 9:18 PM

Either one would be ok but the difference is because of one having Hyaluronic Acid and Coenzyme Q10 vs the other having non of the 2.

  24. Jaz December 5, 2012 at 5:09 AM

Hi ,men can drink meiji collagen?

    • Fruity Lashes December 5, 2012 at 10:38 PM

Of course! I do have male friends that drink collagen.

  25. LR December 11, 2012 at 10:53 AM

I’ve heard we should only drink this for 3 months and then stop and start it back on sonyour body wont feel used to it. Is this true? I’m going to start on the gold soon. Thanks

  26. cs February 15, 2013 at 8:01 AM

where can i find this product amino collagen

  27. Jojowee February 26, 2013 at 8:54 AM

Hi,my 13 yr girl has dry sensitive skin.can she drink the amino collagen ?

    • Fruity Lashes March 7, 2013 at 12:30 AM

I can’t really suggest her drinking anything or not, except maybe more water? The best way is to consult a physician. I’m sure they have the professional knowledge to answer your question.

  28. may July 19, 2013 at 8:37 PM

Have you tried fancl tense up? Which one is better? Thanks

    • Fruity Lashes January 6, 2014 at 5:08 PM

I heard Fancl is really good from a Japanese friend but I have yet to give it a try. What’s your thought?

  29. Aleli July 23, 2013 at 5:02 PM

Hi, am taking IVi collagen right now.
But am curiousif Meiji is better.
How long u have taking the meiji collagen?
Can u post so e pics of your before and after? If u dont mind.

    • Fruity Lashes January 6, 2014 at 5:07 PM

I actually only finished 2 cans before I’m too lazy to drink it everyday. There were some improvements but not visible enough to show on a picture. Now I’m more concerned about eating healthy and living healthy as a whole instead of relying on supplements.

  30. Anna November 24, 2013 at 9:33 PM

It will be two months now since I started using amino premium .. I can see now the glow in my skin.. And some of my friends noticed it.. Now I realized that taking care of ski. Is not only external ,but internal as well..

  31. len March 30, 2014 at 8:40 PM

I’ve tried FINE collagen lift for a month, it was recommended by friend, i really didn’t see much improvement on my skin or maybe i should have used it longer. Anyway, after reading ur review i think i wanna give MEIJI PREMIUM collagen a try. Hopefully its better than FINE. 🙂
