OPI Nice Stems! Summer 2011 Collection Swatch and Review

Imagine enjoying yourself at an orchestra or sitting down at a table in an open air restaurant, whether you dress up in a gown or dress down in a pair of jeans, it would be so dull without vibrant colors that are full of life and flavor. I’m lucky enough to have bouquets of peonies, poppies, dahlias and lilies all in full bloom for me this summer. Not in my garden but on my fingertips and toes. Thanks to OPI Nice Stems! Summer 2011 Collection.

“These vibrant, feminine hues complement 60’s ladylike fashions, 70’s glam looks, and bold color-blocking, which are the season’s staples,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.“The Nice Stems! collection also offers an interesting contrast and feminine accent to the punk and biker looks on the runways.”

The collection includes four shades:

NL S10 Play The Peonies – We’d put our money on this lovely soft-pink.
NL S20 Come To Poppy – Surrender to shine with this shimmering coral-pink.
NL S40 Be A Dahlia Won’t You? – Give the gift of fabulous fuchsia—to yourself!
NL S60 I Lily Love You – Fall head over heels with this light pink sparkle.

Aren’t these polishes gorgeous or what? I was instantly drawn by the glitter one on the far right, because I’m a nature softie for glitz and glam. So let’s start with it first, NL S60 I Lily Love You. This stunner is filled with different sizes and shapes of glitters, flakes and even foils. In a vibrant pink jelly base, I spot gems in pink, red, orange, blue, green, gold… literally in full spectrum. They also change colors when you look at the bottle in different angles.

It came out sheer in one coat with just a blush of pink, though it can be layered to achieve more color but it’s never going to be opaque. The photo below shows one coat and two coats application. You can certainly tell the difference. Also the consistency is quite jelly-like, so that made easy for positioning the glitters. Same as any glitter polish, a thick top coat is needed if you want to have a smooth nail.

Our next line up is NL S10 Play The Peonies. This color is a dusty rosy pink with pearl shimmer. Sure it looks light and pale, but it’s rather delicate and sophisticated.

It’s a nice two coat opaque polish with minor brush lines that’s easily omitted from arm’s away. The photo below shows the standalone coat of our friend and a dolled up version with I Lily Love You as a top coat. There is a dramatic change especially with a much attractive looking color yet still in a mild manner.

NL S20 Come To Poppy is a bright coral pink with a hint of red tone. It’s a great alternative to traditional red polish since it’s less bold yet still striking. It shares the same micro pearl shine finish with Play the Peonies.

Same great coverage with two coat application. It’s even more shimmering than Play the Peonies. I love it on my tips and toes equally. And I Lily Love You seems like such a nice compliment to it, I feel like every bit of it just belongs to where it is, so captivating.

Last but not least NL S40 Be A Dahlia Won’t You? is a hot pink eye candy polish with added sugar and spice, crystalline shimmers. What I call crystalline shimmers are shiny particles that are slightly bigger than the pearl shimmers and also more sparkling and less opaque.

Again the photo below shows two coats of Be A Dahlia Won’t You? on the left and I Lily Love You as a top coat on the right. The triangle shaped foil flake really adds a 3 dimensional glamourous effect to the nail. Formula wise, Be A Dahlia Won’t You? has a more transparent look than the other 2 polishes, but it shines in its own way. It’s just a different finish and feel.

Now let’s recap the swatches of the collection. Here we have the polishes side by side with 2 coat application in indoor lighting.

Here’s another swatch of them in full sun. The colors have a much more vibrant look.

First 3 nails topped with I Lily Love you and top coat in natural indoor lighting. They’re super stunning.

One last photo of them in direct sunlight.

Nice Stems! is a super cute and girly collection. It has every color a girl can ever think of for a fun and vibrant summer. The shades range from pale rosy pink, bright coral, to bold fuchsia and the finishes vary from pearl to crystalline. Finally I Lily Love You completes the collection with jewel-like glitters giving the nails a glamourous vibe. Though there’re only four polishes in the collection, you can achieve at least 8 different looks with or without the use of glitter coat. Like all OPI polishes, the formula is magnificently smooth and even, you can definitely tell a good nail polish from a cheapity cheap one.

With special top coats and glitter coats in the recent Katy Perry, Glam Slam and Pirate collections, OPI polishes are really fun to play with. It’s like no two nails will look the same. It’s unique and never boring.
