OPI The Muppets Collection for Holiday 2011 Swatch and Review

On November 23, 2011 a talking green frog with a collar, a dramatic pig that thinks of stardom, an assistant scientist who only meeps, and the rest of the gang are hitting the big screens. It’s The Muppets! Remembering the show as a kid, I love watching Kermit and Miss Piggy. Kermit was the protagonist while Miss Piggy became a central character after years and years of battling for her stardom. Ironically, Miss Piggy wasn’t that famous back then. However, just seeing them battle it out and all the acting made me laugh off the sofa.

Anyways, make way for OPI’s The Muppets Collection coming in 12 bottles of exciting and festive nail polishes for the holiday.

NL C03 Animal-istic

The first polish we have today is a bright red polish with specks of shimmers scattered throughout the entire bottle. This nail polish can signify the blood and effort of creating each Muppet character making them almost human like with a twist of cartoon and lovable puppet. If you have a favorite Muppet why not grab him or her and give it a big hug! The soft metallic finishes with lighting splattered on top of it. The shimmers give it an extra detailed effect. This color is pretty much perfect for Christmas when you compare it with the red ribbons and the Santa’s coat.

NL C04 Meep-Meep-Meep

Meep Meep Meep! In the Muppet’s Lab lives Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker. Poor Beaker, he only meeps but is always paranoid and scared by a look on his face. Every time something goes wrong in the lab Beaker is the one to suffer whether he is shrunk or invisible. This nail polish gives a really good fuchsia red 3 dimensional scaling look. It’s like the scales of a test animal in a lab. You know those animals we had to dissect in science class to learn about them back in high school. Anyways, the glass fleck finish is almost like the scales of a reptile or a fish. In contrast, two coats give the application a more textured and dimensional look compared with one coat. The shimmers and added effects bring it to life giving this unique nail polish a twist.

HL C05 Wocka Wocka!

Everyone loves a big fuzzy wuzzy teddy bear. Especially, if the teddy bear was hugging and smiling all day. That reminds me, did anyone buy the Costco bear that was selling for $30?

Anyways, Fozzie Bear is probably one of the well known Muppet with a scarf and hat on. His bright smile always made my day because he was jolly all the time. Fozzie was best friends with Kermit the frog. This color reminded me of him because of his mouth being red and how he always went Wocka Wocka Wocka after telling bad jokes. The nail polish signifies a lot about him between a single coat and a double coat. Here is why it signifies him. On a single coat it portrays his mouth being red and on a double coat it magically becomes the color of his nose! So you have a lighter red on a single coat and a darker shade of red on a double coat which is scattered with subtle shimmers that are very micro in size.

HL C06 Pepe’s Purple Passion

The story behind Pepe is that he is a King Prawn from Madrid, Spain. Pepe was a chef back in Spain prior to going to the big screen in Hollywood. The purple color is like a regal color almost adjacent to a king’s color. Similar to Meep-Meep-Meep, Pepe’s Purple Passion almost has glass fleck finish, just like a prawn’s shell only with hints of red shimmers. Between the one coat and a double coat you can identify that on a one coat the polish is lighter without much dramatic effect whereas the double coat gives a much more king prawn look. To get an accurate feel go to the local seafood monger and feel the shells of a king prawn.

HL C07 Designer, De Better!

This one along with Warm & Fozzie are the two polishes that apply rather sheer with one coat. I honestly couldn’t draw any relations between Designer, De Better! with the Muppets other than they have gone gold. LOL. I did find information that Miss Piggy became a model for Prada in a couture outfit at Colette in Paris around 2005. They were celebrating Kermit’s 50th anniversary. Back on to the polish, a single coat of gold is very sheer crossing a silver and golden color of specks around the nail. With another coat, you get a full coverage almost like a trendy dress you would wear to a cocktail party.

HL C08 Warm & Fozzie

Warm & Fozzie is just like our friendly furry friend Fozzie. His brownish fur turns a little bit golden or bronze color depends on how lighting works. This polish goes on sheer with one coat, showing a scattered golden specks look almost like Designer, De Better! The single coat reminds me of a ribbon you would wrap around a present that is white linen in texture with gold dust sprinkled all over. However, with a second coat the sheerness is completely gone. You would find that the polish is in full coverage only to remind you about Fozzie and his fur. The 3 dimensional look on this polish really depicts outstanding features. You can picture this almost looking at a normal leveled carpet from a top down flat view.

HL C09 Rainbow Connection

This is the first glitter polish out of the entire collection. It contains a little bit of everything from the other five bottles of glittery polish. You can almost think of this as three of the main characters consisting of mostly Kermit, Miss Piggy, and a little bit of Gonzo all mashed into one. The nail polish itself is very glittery with a lot of shine under direct lighting. With one coat you would probably see not as much glitters and a kind of bare to be exact. However with two coats the scene completely changes where you see a lot more variety of colors with different shapes.

HL C10 Excuse Moi!

Excuse Moi! is the first of the three Miss Piggy themed nail polishes. The polish is a female rocker look with bits and pieces of different colored glitters all embodied throughout the bottle. This hot pink colored nail polish comes in full of glitter that are blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and more. Besides a female rocker you can also picture this almost like a candy themed polish. You know, the Sweet Factory in the mall where there are a lot of colorful candies? This polish really gives an accurate view on Miss Piggy with her prima-donna and multiple complexion. With a single coat the color is a bit more pink with a minimal amount of glitters. Having a double coat gives a full coverage but it also brightens up the nail with its abundant amount of colorful glitter almost like a kid smiling inside a candy shop while looking at all the colorful candy.

HL C11 Gone Gonzo!

Gonzo the Great, an unknown extra terrestrial blue creature with bug eyes and a large crooked nose. When we hear Gone Gonzo it’s like going crazy, nuts, or even bananas! Its like Gonzo in an episode where he ate tires. I wouldn’t think that rubbery thing is tasty but Gonzo might. First and foremost, this polish has the same texture and ideology as the next three polishes with the only different being in color. This polish holds lots and lots of tiny sized blue glitters with larger sized silver hex flakes. After applying a single coat you get an incomplete scattered blue glitter look with very few silver glitters. With a double coat the coverage is then complete. This color is probably one of my favorite ones. It’s like remembering a cool blue sky with silvery snow. Almost like a winter wonderland.

HL C12 Fresh Frog of Bel Air

Bel Air is a very affluent neighborhood in the hills of the Westside city of Los Angeles, California. It’s right next to Beverly Hills. This glittery polish is the only one dedicated to Kermit the green frog wearing a lighter green collar. Just like Gone Gonzo! this polish is the same texture and feel except with a green color. Having a double coat on this polish not only gives it a full coverage but it also gives it a really greenish money look only with silvers shining!

HL C13 Divine Swine

Our hot looking purple color glitter is the second polish dedicated to the piggy who always thinks of being a star. Always wanting to be a godly piggy who wants everyone to idolize her, the purple fits perfectly. It’s like Miss Piggy wrapped around a purple cape with a crown over her head. She does have purplish hand wrapped mittens going up almost to her elbow in some of the episodes. I noticed that the color itself with double application gives it a flakiness to it almost like confetti scattering down the sky on New Year’s Eve. The glitters make this polish stand out even more because of the multidimensional look as well.

HL C14 Gettin’ Miss Piggy With It!

Last but not least, Gettin’ Miss Piggy With It! is the last polish out of this entire Muppets series. Without going into too much details, the red brings in a really warm feel along with the silver glitters being so shiny. It reminds me that Christmas is really coming and it is just around the corner. The colors of this polish is like the red sleigh with silvery blades on the bottom from a toy my daughter owns. Finally, don’t leave home without a double coat because this color is probably the best festive color for Christmas.

Twelve Muppets nail polishes or Twelve Days of Christmas? Either or doesn’t really matter. The collection gives a fresh perspective of the holiday. With bright and neutral colors along with glittery polishes where you can change to your hearts content. There are twelve polishes to choose from, each of them has different textures and finishes, not to mention the festive colors. I’m loving every bit of these polishes.

I can’t wait to see the Muppets! Is anyone going to go see the movie around Thanksgiving?

When I saw the promo advertisements on this, I thought that it was great and ridiculous because its the muppets. However, I thought why would I go so crazy over something I haven’t saw swatched or how it looks. Now today, I saw this on your site and became in a state of must get. They all look hip and chic.

The last 6 nail polishes are the best. I love how glittery and sparkly they look.

In those swatches the animal-istic and wocka-wocka look very similar to chanel rouge carat. Do they look alike in natural light as well? i would love to buy the new chanel vernis, but OPI is cheaper.:)

    • admin November 1, 2011 at 2:24 PM

They are similar yes but Animal-istic is a lot more shimmery and brighter than Rouge Carat and Wocka-Wocka is a bit darker and less shimmery. So Rouge Carat is like in the middle and more close to Wocka-Wocka. Hope my reply helps.
