RMK Christmas Palette 2011 Swatch and Review

No one does a better job at enhancing women’s inner and outer natural beauty than Rumiko. What happens to Christmas when Rumiko collaborates with the world’s most innovative brand that offers pop, aesthetic, colorful, and clean design, better known for a golden spade logo? You might have guessed what the brand is judging from an Ace of Spades card as an iconic logo. Both Rumiko and Kate Spade’s collaboration brings to the world a fresh new never before seen Christmas makeup gift that offers the best of both worlds.

The design is colorful yet very simple that packs everything you could ever need all in one. This is RMK Christmas Palette 2011.

The kit comes in a transparant plastic packaging including a signature Kate Spade metallic carrier case, a palette compact, a mini lip gloss and a mini mascara.

First of all let me show you the stunning Kate Spade carrier case. It is specially designed for the palette that has a big bow across the front. The inside lining is a hot pink easy-to-clean material while the outside is a soft metallic gold color. It also features a wrist strap and a gold spade zipper. The carrier is super light weight and great for on the go.

So these are what go inside the iconic golden carrying case.

Out of the 3 colors (black, brown, and blue) in the regular RMK Separate Curl Mascara line, this package came with the most versatile color of black. With a slightly curl shaped wand it gets to every single lash with ease.

Though it is a curl mascara, I also find it volumizes and lengthens really well. There was no smudges or clumps and it holds curls all day. So I actually really like it and I’m thinking of getting a full size when I finish this.

The next item in this set is the Gloss Lips N Ex-03 which is a cute pink color with shimmers.

Applying the lip gloss on the back of my hand for swatching purposes, I can see that there is a glow to the pink with shimmers sparkling like diamond.

On my lips, its like a jelly that is smooth and hydrating but at the same time the shimmers make my lips appear a lot fuller and more plumped. There was no sticky feeling either. Apparently this lip gloss made another HG item on my list.

Finally, the palette that everyone has been waiting for comes in a black sleek case that is portable and packs a lot.

On the back, there is a description telling us the details of the palette. There are 3 eyeshadow duos, a cheek palette and a pressed powder. The palette is also divided into 2 tiers with the pressed powder in the lower tier that slides out. It has a total weight of 17.5g, seems like a great value.

The palette is so compact. Even with 2 tier design it’s merely about an inch thick.

Once opened you see the first tier of colors that are very Kate Spade, colorful and fun. There is also a full size mirror included for use when applying makeup. The top 6 colors are in duo eyeshadows and the bottom left 3 colors are for the cheeks.

The palette also comes with 3 brushes for application. The brushes include 2 eyeshadow brushes, a cheek blush, and a face brush (for the pressed powder on then 2nd tier). Each brush has hair that is so soft that it feels so nice and smooth while applying on your face.

Starting off with the eyeshadows, each duo colors are coordinated with a shimmering base and a gradation shadow. But you’re not limited to 3 sets of looks, these colors are totally mix-and-match-able.

After putting the palette in direct sunlight, I noticed that the colors on the palette became a lot more vibrant. I do think the palette reminds me a lot about the Kate Spade store I encountered at the mall.

In the previous swatches without the sun, we already saw the colors with shimmers. I decided to take the same swatches and put it with sunlight to expose what they look like if I was to walk around town. The colors become more mild with shininess due to the reflection off the shimmers.

Here is a whole look at all the colors I have swatched. As for the eyeshadows themselves, they are really high quality. The finely milled powders have soft medium pigmentation. They glide on smoothly with absolutely no shadow fallouts.

Next on the palette, we have the cheek colors. There is a nice contrast between pink, off white, and coral. These colors are the most flattering cheek colors for any skin tone. You can use a single shade of your choice depending on your mood or give them a swirl for a natural healthy glow.

These are the swatches under indoor lighting. If you pay close attention to the shimmers, you’ll find they are different in each color. Pink color has silver shimmer, off white highlighter has gold shimmer and coral has subtle peach shimmer.

With direct sunlight, the shimmers are a lot more visible. Anyone think the picture was like a flag of some sort?

All 3 shades blended together giving cheek a flush of natural glow.

Here’s the colors swatched side by side. From left to right we have pink, off white, coral and all 3 shades blended.

Last but not least let’s take a look at the Pressed Powder on the 2nd tier. There’re 4 shades of colors with top 3 being shimmer and the bottom one being matte. It’s a great setting powder that provides a translucent flawless finish.

Here’s a swatch taken under indoor lighting. From left to right, the shades are off white (top left), light pink (top right), light beige shimmer (middle strip) and light beige matte (bottom)

In direct sunlight, you can see the fine pearlescent sheen from the top 3 shades. By blending the three, you’re going to get that natural radiant glow on your complexion. And the matte powder on the bottom can be used on areas with open pore to give skin a soft focus. I find the powders are ultra finely milled, they all seem to melt into the skin instantly when applied, acting as a second-skin effect veil.

Swatched again in direct sunlight to show you the pearlescent glow.

Here’s the top 3 shades blended.

Needless to say this is a must-have makeup set. It has everything you need for a merry Christmas, from lip gloss, mascara, full makeup palette, to the ultimate Kate Spade carrier case. You’ll never forget to bring one of your makeup items with you. Best of all, you can change your looks from day to night with the different styles you can create with this.

The palette’s colors are really nice and just by looking at them it’s refreshing with colors that look like a Kate Spade store.

The colours didn’t really “pop” for me as a Xmas set but the swatches are very lovely. I wonder if you could choose the shade of the face powder….or if it is just a standard set – one “shade” fits all type of thing.

    • admin October 27, 2011 at 6:08 PM

One shade fits all. There is no choosing.
