Shu Uemura has been well known for his makeup removing oils. There are so many different types of oils ranging from gentle cleansing to pore clarifying, even whitening. You can check out one of the oils that I previously wrote about here. How did Shu Uemura find out about the power of oil? It was at the time when he was a makeup artist back in Hollywood around the 60s. He discovered oil-based cleanser and how effective it removed makeup. That is when he decided to launch his facial cleansing oils!
Surprisingly, oil doesn’t have to be just for the face acting as a facial cleanser it can also be a cleanser for the hair. It holds true since there is a cleansing oil shampoo under Shu Uemura brand.
Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo (400ml) comes in a clear plastic bottle with a black pump on the top. The oil itself as you might note is golden yellow in color. Turning the bottle up and down shows us that the shampoo is thick in a gel formula.
The key ingredient in the shampoo is Onsen Inspired Ferment which has purifying virtues of removing impurities from the hair. It is obtained from volcanic hot springs 2000 feet under the sea. The shampoo is also said to be useable on all types of hair including fine, oily, or flat hair.
So when I first used this, I was instantly drawn by the subtle scent of Yuzu (citrus). It smells very calming and relaxing. The formula itself isn’t heavy at all but rather light and foamy. You can feel that the shampoo was able to not only moisturize the hair but also rip apart the pollutants and impurities built-up on our scalp. It cleanses really well, leaving hair squeaky clean but at the same time very gentle on the scalp. My sensitive scalp would sometimes feel itchy when I wake up in the morning, but with this shampoo I haven’t feel itchy at all. I also like how it smells so fresh with the just barely there Yuzu scent.
I had never thought Shu would come out with Cleansing Oil towards hair. I always thought we’d use oil based cleansers only for makeup removing on the face. I was quite ecstatic when I first heard about it and was wondering if it would actually work. After seeing the results, or rather feeling it, I believe that Shu’s Cleansing Oil Shampoo lives up to its name but it does have a different concept than traditional hair shampoos.
