Smashbox IN BLOOM Soft Focus Powder Eye Liner HEATHER

Smashbox Soft Focus Powder Eye Liner is another Limited Edition item from the IN BLOOM collection. See the related posts at the bottom for more product reviews and swatches.

Description: Create a soft, smoldering eye in seconds with this innovative new formula. The loose powder liner imparts a defined, yet diffused look that’s always pretty and never harsh.

Tips: Use this powder liner on the go (or in a pinch) as an eye shadow! Simply pat the product gently onto lids, and then blend out with a brush.

Size: 0.025 oz

Price: $22

Availability: Smashbox.com, Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, Beauty.com, and select Macy’s

The ingredients are clearly shown on the other side of the packaging. The main ingredients include Boron Nitride, Silica, Dimethicone, all the good stuff EXCEPT parabens. (Click on the photo to see full ingredients.)

Like all high quality eye liners, it’s “Made in Germany”. And it’s not tested on animals. How nice!

Does it look a little boring with a typical liquid eye liner bottle? Not at all! It got compensated by the sound effect from the long handle. Besides functioning as a drawing pen, there’re actually metal balls inside the wand. I’m not exactly sure how many were in there, but when you shake it (as instructed before using the product), you can hear the balls dancing happily in there. What a joy!

On the back of the tube, it tells me the color of the liner, just in case. But there’s no way I will forget how it looks like, it’s already color coded on the bottom half of the tube.

SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING

This is how the applicator looks like. The sponge tip is soft to touch, gentle enough for the delicate eye lids.

The color is a deep charcoal grey that’s almost matte.

See the tiny sparkles when you look really carefully? They’re definitely there but so subtle.

My thoughts about smashbox IN BLOOM Soft Focus Powder Eye Liner in HEATHER

What I like:

– The packaging is chic and sleek. It’s small enough to fit in any makeup bag. The cap closes tightly without leaking or spilling.
– The sponge applicator is soft to the eye area but stiff enough to draw a perfect line.
– The color is not as intense as pure black, it adds a defined yet diffused look that’s always pretty and never harsh.
– Thanks to the powder formula, it doesn’t smudge or smear easily like the pencil liners.
– Great lasting power on my oily lids.
– It doubles as a loose eyeshadow pigment when using a brush.

What could be better:

– It only comes in 2 shades, HEATHER (charcoal grey) and DARK BROWN (deep brown).
– A little pricy 0.025 oz for $22.

Rate it:

Packaging: 9.5/10
Pricing: 9/10
Value: 9/10
Pigmentation: 9/10
Product: 9/10

Overall: A-

Final thoughts:

I still remember the days when I use a powder eyeshadow to line my eyes so I can achieve a smokey look. Or I had to use a Q-tip to smudge the harsh lines for a softer look. Now with this, I can easily get what I want in a matter of seconds. Though loose powder could get a little messy if not used with caution. But it’s not a problem to me at all after I tap off excess on a piece of tissue or on the back of my hands. I do wish it came in more shades besides the grey and brown though. Overall it’s a great liner if you want quick, soft smokey effect.

The product is indeed a little pricy, but what a wonderful idea! ^0^ I wish the packaging is a little better, this just looks like those cheap liners in the drugstore, don’t you think?? it is very compact though, I agree.^0^
