Smashbox Sultry/Sweet Glambox Swatch and Review

It’s been a week since I started trying smashbox Sultry/Sweet Glambox, I finally feel comfortable giving out a review on this set. Normally it wouldn’t take so long for me to review just one product, but I want to get to know each one of the product and have an overall perspect as a set.

Sultry vixen tonight, sweet charmer tomorrow morning. Whatever the mood, satisfy your dual personalities with this all-in-one kit. FREE step-by-step guide! (

Availability: Nordstrom (exclusive),

Price: $68

The glambox includes:

Limitless Eye Liner in Smoke

Net Wt. 0.04 oz (1.2g) Made in Germany

The pencil looks exactly the same as any regular eye liner.

But the packaging is not, it has a built-in sharpener inside the cap.

The flat end on top of the sharpener can be removed and used to clean the pencil shavings. It’s such a nifty tool. I don’t see that from other brands.

The consistency of the liner is similar to the Shiseido liner but definitely harder than MUFE and UD’s. On the other hand, it does not smudge as easily as softer liners. The color is charcoal grey, nothing fancy but good for any occasion.

Photo Op Under Eye Brightener

Did you know the Photo Op Under Eye Brightener in this kit has multiple uses? Besides eye applications, try dabbing on top of cupid’s bow to fake a plumper pout, or applying to cheekbones to highlight these high planes of the face. (

Thanks for the tips, smashbox! What I do is dabbing a few times at the area with the brush then use my fingertip to pat it out. It really does lighten up the under eye area and wherever I want it to be.

Picture below shows how it looks when just swatched (left) and evened out (right). I like the not-so-thick consistency and how it’s easily blended. The nude shimmers look a bit chunk but not very visible from far away.

Eye Shadow Quad in Softly Seductive

Doesn’t it look more like a box of candy? The packaging is very simple but professional looking. It doesn’t have a mirror or applicator inside so probably a stay-at-home quad.

The 4 colors of the quad is Vanilla,Taupe, Cabernet, and Pale Pink. I’m not sure if you can tell from the picture, there’re definitely pearl shimmers involved with these shadows.

The powders are very finely milled and the shimmers are subtle. It has sheer to medium coverage but build-able and blend-able. The texture is smooth without fallouts. The guide suggests to use the Vanilla and Cabernet for the Sultry look and Vanilla, Taupe and Pink for Sweet look.

You can see the colors better on a tissue paper. All 4 shades are neutral and easy to wear. My most favorite is the pink (far right). It’s a really low-keyed salmon pink that adds a nice definition.

2 more closed-up pictures of the shadows swatched on paper.

The shimmers are so subtle and hard to capture with a camera. I tried my best to take these pictures. Hope you can see the shimmers when enlarged.

Hyperlash Mascara

The color is blackout or blackest black. 0.30 fl. oz. (9ml) Made in Italy

The wand is a double bristled (brush and comb) rubber applicator. Most of the bristles are short (top) and one line of the bristles are longer (bottom). The bristles don’t pick up a lot of mascara so it takes several coats to get full effect. The staying power is pretty good, though it still smudges a bit on my oily lids. I don’t blame on the mascara, there’re only 3 or 4 mascaras that don’t smudge on me. Luckily I found a solution that I will share in a later post.

Reflection High Shine Lip Gloss

Net Wt. .36 fl. oz. (10.5ml) Made in USA

The gloss comes in a tube with a slanted soft gel tip. You just squeeze the tube and use the tip to glide gloss on the lips. I do use a tissue paper to clean it up before recap the tube.

The heavy sweet sugar scent does not really suit my taste but it’s only personal. The gloss is semi translucent with silver and gold shimmer. The consistency is on the thick side and have a slight tingling sensation. It does a good job in plumping the lips but feels a bit sticky. The guide suggests to use this gloss for the Sweet look.

Lip Enhancing Gloss in Tempt

The true color lip gloss can be worn in place of lipstick for long-lasting color and luminosity.

The velour applicator looks pretty short and small so it takes 2 to 3 dips to do a full lip. There’s also a strong brown sugar scent that I don’t personally like.

The color is sheer plum with gold flecks. It looks quite dark in the tube but it actually goes on natural and sheer. It has a tiny bit of sticky feeling like the Reflection High Shine Lip Gloss but not as thick. The guide suggests to use this gloss for the Sultry look.

Cheek Duo in Sultry/Sweet

The blush duo is my centerpiece of the whole kit. I really like the woven fabric pattern and the simple packaging that comes with a handy mirror.

2 colors in the blush are Soft Pink and Rich Berry. Both are medium pigmented and matte finish.

For some reason the colors don’t show up very well on my hand though they do have a nice pigmentation on my cheeks. Strange! So instead I’m showing a tissue swatch. I tried using 2 different brushes to test out the texture. With no surprise, the brush with harsher bristles made the blush powder spill all over the place (Rich Berry side). But with a softer higher quality brush, it picks up the right amount of product without making a mess (Soft Pink side). So with this blush, you’re going to need a good quality brush, such as smashbox Face & Cheek Brush #2. The guide suggests to use the Pink shade for the Sweet look and Berry shade for the Sultry look.

Photo Finish Luminizing Foundation Primer

This is a nice sized travel primer with 0.5 fl. oz. product which is going to last for a while. The primer seems like an intimidating golden bronze color in the tube.

But it turns into a luminous gold sheen that’s so subtle and glow-y. It feels more slippery than other primers I tried but it does a great job in filling in pores and lines.

– Thumbs up for the idea of 2 complete looks with one great quality set. The $68 price tag is very reasonable and I think it’s a great deal. The packaging design is simple so you’re actually paying for the products not the fancy packaging.
– The liner is well designed and long lasting. It’s not the softest and creamiest liner out there but it doesn’t smudge or fade either.
– The blush has good color pay off and it’s not too powdery. I like the matte finish for both shades. I can always add shimmers using a luminizing product afterwards if I want to.
– The eye shadow quad has 4 subtle shimmered, everyday neutral shades. They can be layered or blended at wish and the finished eye looks are well defined without looking dramatic.
– The under eye base and foundation primer add a nice glow to the skin that’s luminizing and subtle.

– I wish the outside box was more sturdy, it’s a little flimsy for a gift. It’d be also great if the kit included a travel bag.
– I’m not so comfortable with the scent of both glosses. I personally prefer something light or scent free for my lip products. Though you may like them if you like sugar-y scent.

Packaging: 9/10
Pricing: 9.5/10
Scent: 8/10
Texture: 9/10
Pigmentation: 9/10
Coverage: 9/10
Staying Power: 9/10

Overall it’s a nice kit to try out for the brand. It contains everything you need to create  2 completely different looks. For $68 you get 7 full sized product and 1 nice travel sized primer. It’s really a great deal considering it’ll cost $190 if bought separately.
