Sultra The Seductress: Curl, Wave & Straight One-Inch Iron Review

Having naturally wavy hair was the biggest taboo for me to try different hair styles because the easiest way is to just curl it. Thanks to my Sultra 1 inch Bombshell Curling Iron, it was always a blast for me. But sometimes I just want more than curls, sometimes I crave silky shiny straight hair, sometimes I desire sexy soft waves. What if there’s something that does it all. Wouldn’t that be nice? Until I finally meet you, Sultra the Seductress.

The Seductress comes in a sturdy hard plastic case with a transparent top that is very sexy to the eye.

The back of the box gives a description about the iron. It is a 3 in 1 tool which does it all – Curls, Waves, and Straightening. As you might note that the iron has 3 temperature settings for fine, normal and thick hair. The heat plates are made of Japanese Kyocera ceramic!

On both sides of the box there are two “Sultra” seals for safety purpose. You need to remove the stickers first before you can open the box.

Then on the middle of the back where it says “PRESS HERE TO OPEN BOX”, just press it and lift away the top.

After you lift off the top the iron is then revealed. It’s nicely packed on a plastic tray.

Lifting the iron and the tray out of the box, there is a compartment underneath that holds the cords, the registration card, instructions, and the iron pad.

The iron pad is exactly the same as the one that comes with bombshell. It can be used to wrap up the iron when you store it and it can be also used to wipe off styling residue on the iron, super convenient!

Sultra is all about safety. Everyone of their products I’ve seen so far always has the “Burn Hazard” sign with the kid in the background. So while using any irons you should always stay safe and make sure no one gets burned.

There’s also a new gadget that gets added to the Seductress, this little plastic holder that holds the power cord in place. No more messy tangled cords.

The shape of the holder was also carefully designed so the cords fit in there snuggly. That way they can be wrapped up tightly without being pinched.

The iron has a swivel cord which gives the user ease and freedom to move around. The L-shape swivel end also doubles as a support that can help hold the iron in place when you put it on the counter.

The iron itself has a black toned glossy lacquer finish exterior. It is super sleek!

The ceramic plates are very smooth to the touch (when cool).

When you crimp the iron together, it holds perfectly in place. The outside shape of the plates is slightly rounded so when you do curls and waves, they glide the hair perfectly.

This work of art is where your palm holds. It’s pretty and comfortable at the same time.

Who cares about those rock science temperature numbers when they get translated directly to our hair type. Fine, Normal and Thick that’s all you need to know to set the perfect temperature for your hair. There is also a LED light and a on/off switch on the control panel. Easy and simple.

Now let’s put the iron to test. After you turn on the switch there would be a beep sound that tells you the iron is on. Then a mere 44 seconds is all it needs to get to the normal hair temperature setting. And you hear two beeps with blinking red light telling you the iron is ready to use. See the white arrow pointing at the red light. Also see the  swivel cord helps the iron stay in place.

So it is time to checkout the result. This is how my natural wavy hair looks after blow drying. I used finger drying instead of a brush.

This is after using the Seductress iron, my hair is now perfectly straight and it is very shiny too. I couldn’t have done it without Seductress, but also there’s one secret weapon that helped me achieve the shine. I promise I will be revealing it soon. I can only tell you it smells yummy like coconut.

After seeing the iron straightening my hair, I decided to play with the wave and curl function. This first photo is done by the wave method shown on SultraBeauty‘s youtube channel. It was my first time doing it and it came out really well. I was impressed by how easy it went and how cute the wave was.

On the other side of my hair, I decided to try the curling function. It was also super easy and it was really fast too. I apologize that I forgot to turn on the flash when I took these two photos.

Sultra Seductress is an all-in-one powerhouse that does everything right and perfectly. It does straight shiny, waves sexy and curls bouncy. Not to talk about their cutting edge technology and top notch material, the look itself is a killer. It’s super smooth and sleek. It lets you style your hair in style. The iron is also easy and comfortable to use at the same time. I had no problem achieving three looks with it. One thing I really like about Seductress is that the outside of the heat plates don’t feel as hot as some brands I used before. So I won’t be afraid the heat would burn my face.

Besides, after using both the Seductress and Bombshell, I feel like Sultra is all about safety, functionality and fun. The brand put in a lot of effort into their innovative design and high quality hair tools. It totally worth every penny. Get yours at

wow long time no comment :O This looks like an amazing hot tool! Shame Japan doesn’t sell these kinda hot hair tools. In my experience, the Japanese are pretty weak with dryers, straighteners etc. They need to learn from the west…

    • admin September 23, 2011 at 9:32 PM

Oh wow, Japan doesn’t have Sultra? I had thought they might have a few goods here and there.

This iron looks so nice that it does it all. Can it be used overseas?

  7. Lisa L September 23, 2011 at 12:40 PM

So this is a better version of the Bombshell since it does curls and straight and waves. Nice!

    • admin September 23, 2011 at 9:35 PM

Well Bombshell has it’s own specializations. This one is just a powerhouse when it comes to curls, waves, and straights!

I saw this iron at Sephora and it was so expensive. Do you think its worth $210?

    • admin September 23, 2011 at 9:37 PM

Yes, it is worth the $210 because of the amount of functionalities on it. Think of it this way, if you need curls, waves, and straights but had to get an iron for each. That would total $300 (hence a good one costs $100). On top of that, there is also clutter too!!!

  9. Beautie Bugs September 23, 2011 at 3:04 PM

This iron is fabulous. I will ask my mom to get one for me as my birthday gift. Thanks for the review.

I own this iron and love it! It is so beautifully designed, both aesthetically, and in it’s usefulness. I use it in a salon, so it has gotten put to the test, and my clients constantly comment how shiny it leaves their hair, and how long the shape stays in. The wave effect really amazes them, and it’s SO easy to produce.

In the market for a killer iron? Buy it.

    • admin September 25, 2011 at 5:38 PM

You are right the iron is really great! The iron makes waves and curls easily!

I bought mines like to months ago and it starting making a beeping noise and it wont heat up. Do you know what can be wrong with it?

    • Fruity August 22, 2012 at 2:54 AM

It could be the power problem or you might want to check with the manufacturer to see if there is anyway to troubleshoot it.

I just got this flat iron. It does some amazing work. Did you notice on yours that the plates don’t completely close unless you grip it pretty hard? Mine closes on the top but towards the base there is a slight gap unless I press down hard?????

    • Fruity Lashes March 7, 2013 at 12:40 AM

I don’t think that is an issue unless it’s a huge gap, because you’re not surpose to grip really hard on your hair anyway. I used to press the iron really tight but I learned that it’s totally unnecessary and will damage your hair. You only need to let the hair “glide” through the iron plate.

      • Jessica March 7, 2013 at 3:43 AM

Thanks! It’s not a huge gap but my other iron clamps completely down with no spacing so I didn’t know if that is how this one is designed or I needed to take it back. I played with it some more on a higher setting and I am thinking this is the best styling tool on the planet.
