The Sunscreen Series – Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector, Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion N and Cleansing Oil Review

Years ago maybe even 15 years ago, I can’t remember I heard a true story turned joke. It was on a tour in Hawaii, where the tour guide talked about sunscreen yada yada. Everyone was pretty bored on the bus going from destination to destination. Let’s start the story. He was telling everyone to get and put on sunscreen before heading to the beach. It was at the end of the day and everyone was free to do whatever. Anyways, the next day before heading out, there were two individuals who completely became tanned dark. The tour guide was shocked and asked who they were since he didn’t remember anyone like them on the tour. Turned out, they bought some Hawaii Gold (SPF) #1 Sunblock / Sunscreen. They thought #1 meant the best. Little did they know that #1 meant super tanning to the extreme. After telling this story / joke, the tour guide said make sure to buy a high SPF sunscreen or else he might not know us the next day.

Shiseido, the beauty company has so many great sunscreen products that go from protector to afterwards removing it. Today we’ll take a look at 3 products including the new Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector SPF 42, Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion N SPF 60 and Cleansing Oil.

Starting off is the brand new SPF 42 Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector. Contrary to the brand’s original blue case design, this time it is white. Clean look with grey silver accents and text.

This oil-free protector can block UV rays, oxidation, and over produced sebum. The formula on this sunscreen is weightless and suitable for everyday use. That means if you go out to shop, watch a baseball game, or even stroll around the park this sunscreen would be enough.

Shiseido’s Urban Sunscreen is a bit more watery than the other one. It disappears without showing any evidence of sunscreen. No clinging or stickiness at all either. Even if you repeatedly put on more, it will still become transparent while doing a great job at oil control. I use to hate sunscreen because the face would turn into white streaks and marks. Those really made my day worse. This sunscreen retains SPF after 40 minutes of sweating.

Next we have the super SPF 60 Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion. Coming in a traditional ocean blue color with a sun golden cap, it is soothing and colorful right in the eyes. This higher SPF gives far greater sun protection. The higher the number the better.

This sunscreen helps defend against those pesky UVA and UVB rays. You can be assure that sunburn is pretty much not even able to penetrate through this lotion at all. Signs of aging and cell damage? No way! Also note, this lotion is water resistant so if you want to surf or be buried in sand cooling down, this sunscreen will still be active. One of the things I noticed was that this was formulated with Rose Apple Leaf Extract. According to the box, it holds a large amount of antioxidant which is beneficial to our body and skin.

This sun protection lotion has a milky white texture. It becomes slightly invisible after spreading out evenly. If you look at the photo below, the sunscreen is left with a light almost disappeared white tint (right to the droplet). By the way, this sunscreen can retain SPF even after 80 minutes in the water.

Perhaps, sunscreen is such a hard thing to remove. I mean, anything that clings on to the skin and lasts long is hard to remove. Some cleansers can’t even do the trick. But because Shiseido knows their sunscreen so well and they sure know how to get it off.

Equipped with a fast and easy pump dispenser, this cleansing oil removes the toughest water-resistant sunscreen and also long-wearing foundation. You don’t need to worry about scrubbing the face or using multiple cleansers to wash off the oil. If you mix it with water, the cleansing oil will emulsify pretty well and rinse off completely. This is as simple as it gets.

Before pumping, turn the cap counter-clockwise so the line on the top aligns to the one on the bottom.

Before using the oil, make certain that your hands are dry. With any traces of water the oil will not be as strong. After cleansing, the area will feel light and silky without any dryness. Make sure to rinse the oil off thoroughly.

Shiseido’s entire sun protection line provides everything you need to protect your skin from the sun. Regardless if you’re going to work or even heading to the beach swimming, the options are there. The SPF 42 conceals all of the colors of the sunscreen whereas the SPF 60 protects you seamlessly while you’re having fun. At the end of the day, the cleansing oil is there to strip off the sun protection anyway. No need to worry about the clog pores causing breakouts.

Sun protection is important for your health and beauty year-round, but becomes most prevalent with summer and long days in the sun on the horizon. This season, get rewarded for your Shiseido suncare purchases with this special offer, now available online at and at select retailers nationwide, including Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Dillard’s, Lord & Taylor, and more.

Purchase any two sun products, like the Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector SPF 42 (oil-free, with a matte finish, perfect for every day exposure) and the Ultimate Sun SPF 60rotection Lotion  (highly water-resistant and sand-proof, ideal for a day on the beach) and receive a custom Shiseido sun tote with a free 75 ml Ultimate Cleansing Oil (easily removes water-resistant sunscreen and long wearing foundation).
