Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color 15 Wild Ginger Swatch and Review

If you think girls with pink lips are cute, then ladies with red lips are classy. Whenever I see a red lipstick, I get excited. Luckily the new Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color collection offers a great selection of red lipsticks. The only problem is I had a hard time deciding which one to pick. After staring at the shades for an hour and a half, #15 Wild Ginger goes home!

As I mentioned in my previous posts, the casing on all the new lipsticks are now Gold and Dark Espresso (or if you prefer black). This gives a more luxurious touch and it even feels smoother than the white casing. The color also changes depending on the angle and lighting, making it interesting.

Wild Ginger is a very bright red color with a hint of orange. This color is the purest and prettiest red I’ve seen and is very versatile for all skin tones. Not only that, the vanilla scent is sweet and delicious.

The lipstick is well made, even the back looks ultra smooth and glossy.

There’s Tom Ford’s initials engraved on the tip. I don’t know about you ladies, when I put the lipstick on, I feel like the tip is a bit too big for me so I ended up using a lip brush. Though a lip brush is a must for more defined and precise application, I was usually too lazy to use it.

One thing I want to mention is there was actually a problem with this lipstick. I feel quite unlucky because it was a defect upon arrival. Notice where I pointed the arrow. There seems to be a chip of some sort.

As I madly look around for answers to see why something like this would happen to such a fine piece of lipstick, I noticed the cap had some lipstick stain on. Noticing the inside of the cap there is an insert that keeps the lipstick funnel in an upright position. The only problem is the lipstick wasn’t completely twisted to the bottom. I guess whoever did Q.A. needs to check more carefully next time. It’s such a shame that the perfection of it got ruined.

Back to our star, Wild Ginger has the right balance of pigmentation and luminosity. Although the color is matte, it looks very glowy. The creamy feeling on this lipstick was right on the dot which spreads like butter. Application is incredible smooth and flawless!

After applying the lipstick, I felt the creamy effect kick-in and the red made my entire face brighter than ever. The pigmentation was fantastic, the color is vibrant and vivid that one cannot forget. This photo was taken with natural indoor lighting.

In direct sunlight the red becomes a more intense crimson red.

Since red is such a universal lipstick shade for every woman so I decide to dug into my Beauty Vault and compare the colors!

Here are the rosters:

Dior Addict Lipstick 545 Fire – for swatches and review click here
Guerlain Rouge Automatique 120 Coque D’or
Dior Addict Lipstick 963 Red Carpet – for swatches and review click here
Givenchy Rouge Interdit 39 Absolutely Irresistible Red Satin Lipstick
Lunasol Full Glamour Lips S 06 Soft Red

The best way to tell how the results would be was to swatch them on my arm and compare them. The result is pretty transparent after looking at the picture. Dior’s Fire is immediately out of the equation due to its overly orange color. Dior’s Red Carpet and Givenchy’s Absolutely Irresistible Red stood in the same league together. Tom Ford’s Wild Ginger looks closest to Guerlain’s Coque D’or and Lunasol’s Soft Red (only if it was a bit more brighter). Though both contain more or less shimmer while Tom Ford doesn’t.

Aside from the fiasco and the underlying problem (defect), Wild Ginger really is a marvelous lipstick. The creamy texture and the bright red pigmentation really stood out. While I was swatching different lipsticks, I noticed Tom Ford’s to be richer in color and texture. It also lasts all day long without drying and feeling dry. The hand-picked exotic ingredients like soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter, and chamomilla flower oil did worth every penny.

TF has one of the best formula. For some reason every time I apply it on my lips I think of vanilla cake.

Surprisingly, there are a few friends of mine who says this color looks good on me compared to the Violet Fatale that I liked. But this color is brighter and more of a better choice for everyday use.
