Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick 02 Pale Dune Swatch and Review

For the longest time I’ve been sticking with liquid and cream foundation, or even powder foundation. I was never into stick foundation, because for some reason I just think they go on streaky and dry to the skin. Until one day, I discovered an ultimate stick foundation, Tom Ford’s Traceless Foundation Stick. It’s the one foundation stick that completely changed the world.

The packaging is incredibly smooth and sleek. The gold ring in the middle adds a luxurious accent to the dark espresso casing. The Foundation Stick comes in 15 g for $78.00 and is sold exclusively at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

So the color I will be showing you is 02 Pale Dune. There is a total of 12 colors available from this collection and Pale Dune is the 2nd lightest. So you really have a lot of shades to choose from.

There is one thing I found pretty neat is that after taking off the cap the inside was scattered with tiny gold shimmers all around the area where you twist and turn the foundation out. The effect is pretty cool.

Here is how the foundation looks. It almost looks like a tube of nude lipstick or some sort of a concealer.

Turning was very easy and smooth and it’s fully retractable, though I don’t recommend turning all the way out. Below shows you how much foundation the stick comes with.

Applying the foundation brings back memories of grade school. I remember in art class when I use to use glue sticks to glue things together for arts and crafts. This foundation stick is sort of like that to me. While applying the foundation I find the application is extremely easy to my surprise. It was so creamy and glides on effortless. Pigmentation is fantastic while being ultra lightweight. Take a look for yourself below for the coverage with just one single swipe.

Blending is also easy as the coverage is almost flawless. Notice how nicely it covers my blood vein and unevenness of my skin. It feels really moisturizing. The most important thing is, it’s so easy to carry around. It’s also travel friendly so I don’t need to worry about 3-1-1 anymore. For the ones who are not familiar with it, simply put there is a strict regulation about liquid product when you take an airplane. So stick foundation would be the best choice.

A foundation stick is something new to me and the idea is quite unique and catchy as well. I would have never thought that a foundation stick would work so well like my other foundations. It has the most natural finish, not too matte and not too dewy either. It looks almost like your own skin. You don’t see any “trace’ of foundation at all, hence the name traceless. I am quite impressive by how long lasting it is. I have it on all day without caking or creasing. It just stays fresh for over 10 hours. There is only one thing that I wanted from this, if it was a vanilla flavor scent it would have been perfect for my sweet tooth.

I love Tom Ford perfumes and now I want this.

Oh great. Which perfume did you like the best? You really should try this foundation too.

I have both Violet Blond and Jasmine Rouge after reading your review. I’m thinking of getting Santal Blush too.

I had a bad experience with a foundation stick once, but I was young then and I didn’t know anything much about makeup. I looked like a mask! hahaha… I never used a foundation stick since. But now that I’ve read your review, I’m thinking about trying them again. Tom Ford is pretty expensive though. Do you have other recommendations?

    • admin November 17, 2011 at 2:35 PM

I had the same fear like you did. I hate foundation that’s like a mask. You probably can try some other stick foundations and see which one suits you the best. Personally I’ve only used Tom Ford so I’m so sorry that I can’t give you a recommendation. You just need to go out and do some testing. You may find something that works.

I tried one stick foundation a lot time ago but it didn’t work out. I looked like wearing a mask on my face. My skin was suffocated. After reading your review, I want to give this the stick foundation a try again. Tom Ford indeed is calling my name.

    • admin November 17, 2011 at 2:37 PM

Sorry for your bad experience. Now with Tom Ford I can guarantee your skin won’t be suffocated.

I think Bobbi Brown (at least) has foundation in sticks, so the idea isn’t really that new. Some professional brands did this either. I didn’t like such form of foundation – it is too thick and gives to much coverage. I saw it works perfect for photoshots and for people who need good coverage.

Haha I’m sure there are a lot of stick foundations on the market. It’s just new to me because I’m a chicken for makeup. I don’t know how other brands performs because this is the first stick foundation I ever used. But I really like it, it’s not heavy at all. Technology these days are so advanced.

Yeah, may be I’ve tried another versions on sticks. Still liquids are more comfortable for me. Will you make reviews of any liquid foundations soon? 🙂

Yes some reviews are on the way!

I just got Tom Ford’s Jasmine Rouge parfum and now you’re alluring me again. But I love you.

    • admin November 17, 2011 at 2:41 PM

I’m glad you like Jasmine Rouge. Thanks for reading my blog <3

Hmm a vanilla flavored foundation would be deadly! Even without it the Tom Ford foundation is still worth a try. I love the luxurious packaging too.

    • admin November 17, 2011 at 2:42 PM

Then you’ll love Tom Ford products. I haven’t found anything TM that I don’t like.

Thanks for the review! Most of the testers at Selfridges looked really pink!

    • admin November 17, 2011 at 2:43 PM

Oh really =x Pale Dune is luckily my perfect match. It doesn’t look pink. I haven’t got a chance to see them on counter yet. I need to go this weekend.

I was wondering how you apply this foundation? Do you use a sponge or just fingertips?

    • admin November 17, 2011 at 2:44 PM

Yea I just use my fingertips, it works great.

    Thanks for the review!
Do you think this stick foundation is too heavy on combo skin?

and have you had chance to try Tom Ford’s liquid foundation? Could you compare them if you have? Thank you!! 🙂

    • admin December 9, 2011 at 9:52 AM

I don’t have the liquid foundation but I can tell you that the stick foundation isn’t too heavy. If I ever do get the liquid foundation, I will consider comparing them. 🙂
