NARS Spring 2012 Collection Soft Touch Shadow Pencil Dark Rite, Pure Matte Lipstick Valparaiso, Blush Gaiety Swatches and Review

When I first saw NARS Spring 2012 collection, I was ecstatic about the colors. They are darker in comparison with other brands. Hence, I haven’t seen any pastels in this collection, at least not that I know of. Today, I will be featuring 3 products from their collection as you can see below.

Let’s start off with NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil Dark Rite. It is priced at $24.00 and has a weight of 0.14 oz. The pencil comes in a pretty dark navy blue color and is quite outstanding in pencil design. If it was an artists color pencil, I wouldn’t be too surprised!

Dark Rite is a pencil that shades the lid, line, or highlight the eyes. It is suppose to have smooth, creamy texture for easy blending and with the ability to layer for color intensity. It also states having a long wearing formula. I do find it being rich and creamy, however it doesn’t dry fast. You may want to blot it so it stays better, just like applying lipsticks.

Our next item from this collection is the Pure Matte Lipstick in Valparaiso. The lipstick is priced at $25.00 for 0.07 oz. The very first thing I noticed on the lipstick was the locking mechanism where you needed to exert a little bit of force before you could twist the lipstick in or out. This would prevent smudging against the cap or any mishaps. Aside from the mechanism the packaging is in a long slender tube.

The colors on this is a big bold raspberry red out of the tube. This lipstick is said to be rich and provide an extreme pigmentation with longer wear time. Inside the formula is also wild mango butter with Vitamin E and acai oil. These are great antioxidants with moisturizing benefits.

Our last product from the Spring collection is the Gaiety blush. It retails for $27.00 and comes in at 0.16 oz. The color on this blush is a gorgeous popping hot pink. This color would work perfectly on whiter / paler skinned people making them really cute.

This blush brings liveliness to ones complexion. The formula is a silky texture with a matte finish. There are also very few shimmers that is hardly noticeable to the eye. You might be able to see a few in the second photo with flash.

The application on all 3 products are no doubt a very easy glide with smooth textures. Gaiety on the far right is a very light pink color on my skin but I could imagine if I wasn’t in the sun so much it would look even more perfect. It is very silky indeed and is easily applied on with hardly any effort. Valparaiso brings a very moisturizing and almost creamy texture upon use. It is also quite rich and pigmented. I was surprised after one application it showed so much intensity. In light, you could pretty much see the glossiness that bound to the color. Last but not least, Dark Rites is such a powerful color. It also has shimmers surrounding the color. However, I must say that the pencil is a bit tricky when used as an eyeshadow. It works better as a base color on the lids. Bottom line is, the pencil is probably more suitable for drier eye lids as oppose to oily.

The colors in this collection are definitely different than any NARS’s peers. Intense, strong, and pigment are probably the best 3 words to describe this collection. Each product application is also very smooth and easy to use. Other than Dark Rites, needing a little bit of more care, everything else seems to fall into place.

I still like the Holiday collection better. This collection is too boring and the colors are easily found elsewhere.

NARS is so bold for Spring. Unlike other brands.

That Gaiety blush was the best blush ever. Worked perfectly on my pale skin. The highlight was amazing.

I like how you talked about Dark Rites. I heard so many bad things about it but I guess it isn’t an eyeshadow afterall.
